Do you even ride? If you think you are going to jump from a 600 to a 1000, you must not value your life very much. Nighttrain got it right. Get the Vespa.

I hope by your handle that this is a joke. But in case it's not:
Both are fast, faster than anything you've ever driven on four wheels unless you've driven some sort of 600 hp all out race car. The GSX-R600 has over 100 hp in a 400 lb package and is frighteningly fast if you don't have some good riding experience. The GSX-R1000 has enough horsepower to get a Honda Accord moving, and in a bike, that's ungodly terror fast.
For a first bike, you ought to pick something that's easy to control and learn on, so that you'll have the skills to really push a bike to its limits. All that power does you no good unless you can control it. I'd recommend starting on one of the more street oriented Suzukis - a GS500F would be a great starting point, or if you must have more power, a SV650. A GS500F is going to be as fast as a new Corvette (I've driven both), but it's something that you can still manage just after taking a riding class.
Remember, this is your first bike, not your last.

I have owned both, I have been riding for 15 years. I currently have the 1000 but really kick myself for selling my 600. You can't beat the 600, it is a very good motorcycle to start out riding. The 1000 is in many ways too much motorcycle, I have spun the rear on many occasions when not paying attention and almost snapped myself off. If I were to do it again I would look at the GSX-R 750 its the best of both worlds!

The 1000 is going to be faster. And from the sound of it you are inexperienced with motorcycles and from a safety standpoint you should get the 600 at least until you get some experience on a motorcycle

Kid, if your buying it to go fast, don't. It's too darn dangerous on a 2 wheeler as it is. People "don't see you". there are only two kinds of riders. Those who have been knocked down, and those who are gonna be knocked down.

I can tell you that the 600 is probably 600ccs, and the 1000 is probably 1000ccs, so that would be the faster of the two.
