I often have to clean my car carpet after the children kick the matts all over.
I use a house carpet cleaner, one thats diluted into a bucket.Although the car spray foam ones are good for lifting stains. But todear to use all the time.
Try not to wet the carpets through and i found using a car or a flat edge and drag it acoss the shampooed area will help lift the dirt then wipe the dirty bubbles up with a wet cloth. When the bubbles are clean across the carpet i just rewiped with a damp cloth all over.
If you have to use the car use the matt but make sure its clean and remove when finished driving.but watch for slippery feet on the pedals.
Also ideal and same technique for seats but be careful and clean lightely on the roof liner.

Well it depends on how old your carpet is and how well you have taken care of it. What I use to clean the carpet in my car is the bissel "little Green" - it's a portable handheld steam cleaning vaccum. It makes the carpets look like brand new and only costs like $88. Best $88 you will ever spend (for car cleaning)

No. Automobile carpets are stepped on with wet, snow covered, muddy feet, and they are out in the sun and subjected to huge temperature extremes.
Shampooing auto carpets makes them look clean, not new.
