Sean Connery mostly because he played James Bond first and in several movies.
Daniel Craig in the latest James Bond, was pretty good too, he just didn't have the suaveness of Connery.
I like Pierce Brosnan but not as a top contender for the best James Bond.
Connery set a pretty high bar for those who followed.

The persona of Bond has changed several times over the last 30 years. George Lazenby was the first of the 'new age' emotional Bonds. Timothy Dalton was cast for the role at a time when PC was heavily in vogue. Daniel Craig (see Him in 'Munich' and You will see why He was picked for the role) has the makings of getting the character from the book to the screen just as Ian Flemming first envisioned Him .
For My money George Lazenby got it right......"On Her Majesties Secret Service" was the last of the 'real stories' before everything went to preposterous lengths with incredulous story lines and action sequences. But Daniel Craig was damned good in "Casino Royale", He was 'believable' in the role, wasn't He?

I am torn--Roger Moore and Sean Connery
There were other actors that played that part over the years but
to me I think Roger Moore #1 then Sean Connery.
