I would say that it depends on how many people are occupying the house. To me, "big" is anything more than 1000 square feet per person that lives there. A 2000 sqaure foot house is not big if you have to share it with 8 people....

Depends on what you need. I would call a 4,000 square foot house "big". I would say that the typical single-family home in our area is between 2,000 and 2,500 square feet.

5,000 SF or more. Right now, I live in 3300 Sf and have no problems with getting lost in the place.
