To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the approbation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; To give of one's self; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived - This is to have succeeded.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I have quite a few but here are some of my favourites.

'The best asset a person can have, is having someone who believes in them'

'Learn from other people's mistakes, you'll never live long enough to make them all yourself'

'Swallow your pride, it contains no calories'

'A woman is like a cup of tea, you never know how strong she is until she is in hot water'

Have many more, if you want some more just e-mail me and I'll be happy to share - I just have to find the book wrote them all down in. I saw it the other day but where .......... ?

"what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul." - the Principal in Billy Madison

"And this above all, to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night, the day, thou canst not then be false to any man". William Shakespeare, in Hamlet.

"By believing that the source of power lies outside oneself, one becomes powerless and vulnerable and, therefore, defensive and possessive. True success originates within, independent of external circumstances." ~David R. Hawkins; PhD, MD~

I often quote just the last statement, and substitute whichever word fits better than the word 'success' for the context I'm using it in.

A word to the wise is enough. This is translated from the Latin: "Verbum sappientibus satis est".

Another one I like is: "Where there is a will, there is a way".
However, I like to take the "meeky" on this one by saying: "Where there is a will, there are relatives".

I have two:

1) You can't have the greatest love without risking the greatest pain. (my own quote)

2) It's not about having what you want, it's about wanting what you have that matters most. (unknown quote)
