I have a Notebook (with WLAN and Wi-Fi Connection) and a Desktop PC with no Wi-Fi. What router would be the best for me? I need very good speed and a pretty good range. I can go anywhere up to about $100 (give or take.)

Well contrary to what people may say, there isn't a lot of difference between Wireless-G products. They all work about the same whether it's Netgear, Linksys, D-Link... I've used them all. Linksys seems to have a greater number of problems simply because their market share is so huge; more of them out there- but as a percentage I don't think they're any higher than the others.

While Wireless-N offers greater speed and longer range, it requires a Wireless-N adapter to take advantage of it, and the built-in adapter in your notebook is almost certainly regular old Wireless-G. So basically, look for a deal at Best Buy :)

For desktops, it's almost always preferable to just connect a regular CAT5 cable to a wired port on your router- no extra hardware to buy, no problems with interference, and faster too.

A on the spot modem router would be a on the spot router/modem combination and a on the spot router would in basic terms be a router via itself. in case you had extreme-speed cable information superhighway you will choose a modem linked to a on the spot router to get on line.

Another D-Link DI-624 user here. 18 months 24x7 of satisfactory and very reliable service. My PC on the second floor gets very good signal even if the router at ground floor is at medium power setting. Also very easy to install and configure.

A newer model is DI-624M Super G.

I use D-Link 624, and I really like it. It does not drop connections, has a very powerful firmware (filtering, firewall, WAN/LAN routing) and has 4 ports for wired LAN.

But I thing this will help more than my own experience:
