GB is 1000 times bigger than a MB. 1GB is the same as 1.0GB

Hi There, No 256 mb is not bigger than 1 gb it takes 1000 mb to make 1 gb hope this helps.

Actually, seems you are confusing because of 1000 MB = 1GB and 1024 = 1GB

Actually this is all about binary math.

The Decimal System is a base 10 number system that uses ten digits (0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9).
1000 is attained as follows:
1 x10 = 10 x 10 = 100 x 10 = 1000 (kilo)

The Binary System is a base 2 number system that uses only two (bi) numbers or digits (0 and 1) to represent all values.
The unit closest to 1000 is attained as follows:
1 byte x 2 = 2
x 2 = 4
x 2 = 8
x 2 = 16
x 2 = 32
x 2 = 64
x 2 = 128
x 2 = 256
x 2 = 512
x 2 = 1,024 bytes (1 kilobyte)
and so on

So, that 1GB or 1.0GB or 1024MB is the same thing.
But 1GB is not equals 1000MB :)

1GB is the same as 1.0 GB. Since its a whole number they just round off the .0

This isn't technically true, but for sake of ease of understanding, 1000 MB = 1 GB.

So 256 MB = 0.256 GB
1 GB is about 4x the size of 256 MB

256 MB is 1/4 of 1 GB

1GB and 1.0 GB are two ways of expressing the same thing.

MB->Mega Bytes. is 10 to the power 6....
GB->Giga Bytes. Is 10 to the power 9.....
So GB is greater than MB........

1.00 GB and 1 GB are the same......

256 MB -> 256 * 10 E 6
=256000000
1 GB = 1*10 E 9
=1000000000
so 1GB > 256MB

"1.0 GB" could be short for a value just a little over 1 gigabyte, but the shortened number doesn't show you that because it only goes over one decimal place.

1000 MB = 1 GB... Sometimes 1024 MB = 1 GB (depends on the platform)
1 GB = 1.0 GB
etc.

for everything else:

1 byte = 1 b
kb = 1024 b
mb = 1024 kb
gb = 1024 mb
tb = 1024 gb
