I think you should tip buffet servers less than regular service. This is coming from a person with a lot of serving experience too. Buffets are easy, easy for servers. They only have to clear some plates and bring you a soda. You do all the work of serving yourself, and yet people still expect 15-20%. I usually do 10%.

I tend to leave 10% - 15% at a Buffet-style restaurant. I take into consideration - was the server nice, bring me water, tea, whatever - clear my plates, offer help or to bring something.

Where at a full-service restaurant I leave 20% normally, and 15% if service wasn't so hot.

Former waitress - and I know that restaurants don't even pay minimum wage -- the Federal Gov't expects servers to make it up in their tips...

I'm just wondering how many people boyfaceddog has angered in his days dining at buffets. Do you enjoy pissing off every last server that has taken care of you? Jerk.... at least 10% or $1 per person, whichever is greater. Servers at buffets do make minimum wage so their wages are not entirely tips like a server at a regular restaurant.

18%. Its still a lesser of a tip versus the bill you'd get in a full service restaurant.

Tip? At a buffet? What are you going to do, throw money at the salad bar?

"Thanks for being so full of lettuce and so cold."

The people who bus tables are NOT WAITERS OR WAITRESSES. They don't have to be friendly. They don't need to remember anything. They don't need to bring you a correct check or process your credit card.

No tip.

I still tip the 18%....unless the server was terrible and had to wait 4 ever for drinks and the bill.....I don't want to be the one servers complain about bad tippers..And trust me servers remember who tips well and doesn't
