I am planning on buying a car. However, all the cars that I have my eye on are too expensive.
I came up upon a 2000 BMW 323i with 136,000 miles for 10,950 dollars.
Is this a smart move?
also will I find many problems with the car and I'll have to spend lots of money to fix?
they have a warrenty thing for 799 which provide engine and transmission warrenty for 3 years unlimited miles. Is this a good deal?
please give any advise or any experience with this BMW model
thanks

Almost all 99-00 E46 323i and 323ci cars have defects in their automatic transmission when they hit around 100,000 miles. Unless your car is a manual transmission car or an auto transmission car with a replaced tranny, you should avoid it.

You don't want to be stuck with a $6,000 repair bill!!

I don't know how good is the warranty, but if the car has auto transmission and the fluid hasn't been changed, and you are using the original tranny, you WILL need the warranty!!

Here's the report:

Not that changing the fluid would help at 136k miles... this is just for your background knowledge... how to change out the fluid:

Also scroll up to page 4 to read the whole article on maintenance.

Other than this major issue, you should be fine. Make sure to go through the maintenance table on page 7 of the article to see if the previous owner missed some items; because if he missed some, you will be the person paying for those maintenance.

Also, once you buy this car, there's a neat trick for you to reset the service indicator without the need for a special tool or going to the dealer.

Other things to watch for:
Control arms will need to be changed out around 100k miles. This is due to worn ball joints which cannot be changed out separately.

Thermostat will also probably need to be changed out at around 100k.

You should also change out the waterpump whenever convenient. One with metal impeller is available at www.bavauto.com. The OEM plastic impeller is prone to failure. (see page 4)

Bavarian Autosport sells metal impeller versions.

there is no longer lots which could bypass incorrect with an oil exchange so i does not be too stressful. Heck you ought to try this at abode with out any situation. you're on the East Coast so in case you employ organic and organic oil, i could advise something that expenditures as little as 5 so which you do no longer situation approximately freezing. different than for which you may evaluate applying man made oil which has three times the existence of organic and organic oil and lots extra suitable warm/chilly tolerances. I merely use man made in my 3 BMWs. (325, 328 and M3.)
