You know, the BEST birthday gift that a MOM would want from her 12 year old is for the 12 year old child to provide in the Birthday Card, a set of "coupons" where the 12 year old child OFFERS to do a "Chore" that MOM would ordinarily do -- so that MOM could have a few less chores to do for the next several weeks --- you know .. like "Mom, I will do the dinner dishes for the next week" ... "Mom, I will take out the trash and roll the Trash Bin streetside" ... "Mom, I will CLEAN my Bathroom for the next month" ... "Mom, this is for a Day off ... where I will do the laundry for you!" .. things like this on Coupons will be the BEST gift a Mom could ask for!

As a mom and grandmother I completely agree with Snglmom. The only thing that I would add is maybe some of those coupons could be for doing something special together. Doesn't really have to cost a lot. A walk around the block, picnic in the park, movie nite at home. My grandson is 12 and I know that he is getting to the point where he doesn't want to spend as much time with mom. Time with you will mean more than you can imagine. If you are really set on jewelry you might get her something in sterling silver. Whatever you get her she will love. Good luck

If you can't afford it, don't even try for "fake" stones (like diamonds, birthstones, etc.) Definitely go for costume jewelry -- metal, beads, wood, plastic -- that look great with the right outfit.

Target has great earrings and necklaces. I bought a pair of awesome dangly chandelier earrings (silver with tiny pale blue droplets) for about $12 -- I get tons of compliments.

If you want to make it extra personal, make a jewelry box to go with it. Get a small plain wood or cardboard box at a craft store ($3-5) and paint it with acrylic paint ($1-2 per color). Glue on beads or other pretty stuff, or print color photos of you and your family and glue them on. Wrap the earrings in colored tissue, put them inside the box with a personal note handwritten by you, tie the whole thing up with pretty fabric ribbon, and give it to her.

Good luck!

I think you should give her flowers. Flowers are the most beautiful thing in this world. Nothing can beat flowers, women love flowers. The love that moms give us is totally irreplaceable. Go for flowers and make a lovely combo by just adding a cake of her favourite flavour. You can give an inexpensive but also a beautiful and yummy gift to her. ALL THE BEST!

You should not get fake diamonds or fake gold/silver, it looks a little gaudy. Try something with beads, those are always fool-proof. Cost Plus World Market has exotic, beaded jewelry that might suit her taste. Just try not to get anything too large or too bright. Good luck!
