And since corporal punishment has been banned, are the kids learning more? nope.

Corporal punishment is basically useless after the toddler age range, and should be conducted by parents.

Using the slightest force at a younger age, providing it's goal oriented and consistent, results in a lifetime of respect.

A child knows he's loved when his parents, risk a buddy buddy relationship, for consistent discipline. There's ample time for fun; through the years. Make it happen!

With this stated, there's no real need for physical punishment in school. In fact, I'd dole out the same to any school official who tried to touch my kids.

to the guy who said every kid needs a make in the face--where do you live, I want to see what a dumb *** looks like in person. No child or adult needs to be hit. There are time outs and groundings that work well and if you bring up your kid to respect you and authority you won't even have to think of hitting them,
From a previously beaten child who as an adult became afraid of everything and went to years of counseling.

Hitting children is never appropriate. I think you were referring to the days when children who misbehaved were sent to the principal for a few swats on the behind. Discipline (not beatings or hitting) begins in the home and you need at least one responsible parent there. Many times there ae NO responsible parents in the home. Children services where are you?

lots of people can't figure out the difference between a spanking and a beating...I certainly don't want someone else making the distinction for me. I find it hard to believe that hitting would make someone else learn better anyway...it's probably just the fear of retribution of failing that would compel them to learn anything at all. Children just need the space and time to grow and learn at their pace...

Your question is either deliberately misleading, or uninformed. Hitting, and Spanking are NOT the same. As with most rules in government run schools, bans on spanking have NOTHING to do with educational merit. It results from the ideological agenda of those that run the schools.

I dont know i think some people just abuse the beatings and go overboard with it and thats why the government prohibits it. Besides I learned better without being beaten. Some kids learn better the hard way so perhaps its all relative.

It doesn't. Any basic classroom management/child care theory will tell you that. If you have to scare a child to make them listen to you you have a lot to learn.

I teach in the South Bronx and can get the kids who were in prison to respect me and listen to me with a combination of humor, empathy, and attention to rules with simple consequences.

because it is really wrong to hit children and a horrible way to teach children and they are not their parents so they do not decide

because the thought of a principle swatting their kids butt for doing something that deserved it, caused all the hanky stomping liberals to get their undies in a wad. How dare anyone touch their little cadillac, bmw, volvo driving,$300.00 tennis shoe wearing, cell phone addict!!!!! Gasp!
