That particular process is similar to the Electoral College, except that it's theocratic. Separation of church and state is a hallmark of the American republican system that should never be underestimated. When evaluating whether a system is free or democratic, you need to look at more than the procedure. For example, if you only glanced at Egypt's constitution, you might assume that it's democratic, but it's actually unfree. According to Freedom House, Iran ranks very poorly on civil and political liberties, with an overall rating of "not free."

Yes, it's a democratic country.

They have a Supreme Leader, chosen by the Assembly of Experts (similar to our Electoral College), and a President, who is chosen directly by popular vote.

After the Supreme Leader, the Iran Constitution defines the President of Iran as the highest state authority. The President is elected by universal suffrage for a term of four years.

Democracy has completely lost its original meaning where it was defined the decision by people. It looks like democracy is determined by its vendors rather than the very meaning they gave to it. Iran goverment is elected by popular vote. So as Hamas government in Palestine. Nevertheless, both are deemed non-democratic.

You believe that these elections in Iran actually occur?
In a country that stones adulterers to death and has professed the legality of citizens killing other citizens after warning them they are not living per Islamic beliefs?

Yes, Iran is a democratic country, their leader has ALL the power and remains in power through periodic "elections." Sure, tell me another good one.

Just say you think Iran is a good country and the US is illegal and stop trying to make inferences to it. I will continue to disagree.
