there was good tv, The Sweeny, Z Cars, goes back a bit!! Hill Street Blues, Afternoon plays, I Claudius, Pennies from Heaven, but its now dumbed down to such an extent, you have to be very discerning and channel hop a lot. Theres still good stuff like West Wing, Vice, The History Channel, Life on Mars, Life on Earth, lets just bin the crap like BB and all those awful reality shows that don't educate, inform or entertain. The new True Dare Kiss is quite entertaining so we need more like that and how about not repeating films so much as they do on Film 4, One with Doris Day has been on at least ten times in the last few weeks.

I have to admit I do indeed remember those days. I cannot fathom why people watch 'Big Brother' and all the other cloned programmes. And why do they call it "Reality TV" when nothing could be further from the truth. It's just a bunch of frustrated would-be actors, hoping to make the headlines the following morning.
I, also can't stand the 'voting off' programmes which involve people relishing in the demise of some poor, but somewhat naive individual.
Unlike you, I've kept my telly, but only for the football and nature programmes which I love. Come on you Gooners!

I like a good film myself!
As for Dramas.......they used to be on the same night, same time weekly.........now that has all changed, they are either on 3 nights in a row or the weekly times change etc, so this means you miss 1 episode and and you do not where the feck you are!
But will humbly admit to watching BB!
Sad ole me!
Do you think the introduction of Sky and Cable has forced these changes?

Yuppp those were the days. But I have to admit I do watch some reality tv stuff, but it's still nothing compared to the great dramas and films and stuff they'd show before everything became reality tv.

Totally agree with what you are saying.. I am so glad I have cable so I can flip it to the movie channels and watch some great classics. That was even before my time, but I love 'em

Sorry to say, but I think the average tv program of old was just as bad or worse than the average tv program now. E.g Andy Griffiths show, Beverly Hillbillies, etc.

I remember. It could be because of the dumbing down of America or that the shear volume of programming on cable has diluted the quality of what is out there

It's not just the reality TV....none of it is any good. There are so many commercials, I can't stay interested in any of the shows.

I agree - TV was soooo much better when I was younger - writers need to rethink their scripts and get back with the times of what entertainments really all about....
