There are several avenues through which to gain political authority. Money has been the most common for quite some time, since before the founding of the United States in fact. The founding fathers of the United States were wealthy and dominated the politics of the day. There are very few modern countries in which money is not the deciding factor in political authority. In those countries, force or threats of violence are the most common vehicle.
Other avenues through which political authority might be gained include: birthright, trickery, etc.
Whatever the avenue through which individuals gain political authority, rarely have they ever used it for improving the lives of average citizens. And even if Constitutions decree that that is the only legitimate use of political authority, the draw of increasing power/prosperity is too great a reason not abuse the political authority.
You are not alone in feeling powerless. Welcome to the club, populated by basically every human being to ever live.

Hillary will raise the $500 million needed to win. Obama and Edwards will not. It's not about the person, it's about money and power, Hillary has both. Bill Gates and Oprah are backing Hillary. Hillary has two million seller books and Bill gets $250,000 for a 30 mins. speech, thanks to Republicans hate mongering, they are both very wealthy now.

It is all about POWER and EGO, not money. Presidential candidates are already filthy rich. Their decisions are based on getting elected and reelected.....nothing else!

Yes. Back in the 1880s, I think it was.
Hope the realization hasn't come as too much of a shock to you...

it is about power, money and greed - the controlling force to keep people in line is fear and confusion - also division works well.
