You would have to use a hydrometer to get the specific gravity to 1.020-1.026. There's no easy #of cups per # of gallons, because salt compacts over time as it's exposed to moisture (even humidity), so if you try to use a volume, your water would get increasingly saltier as you go through a bag of salt, then decrease as you open the next one.

This link will take you to one of several articles on keeping lionfish: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/lions&rels.htm If you go back to the homepage: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ you'll find lots more info you'll need for keeping a saltwater tank. Really research the feeding of these fish if you're thinking of getting one, because most die very prematurely because of a poor diet given by their owners. The owner also needs to be aware they have venomous spines.

Its not as simple as adding table salt to the aquarium, you'll kill him. You need a salt water tank with an established cycle. You can't keep him in a bowl like a gold fish. The basic components of a salt water tank are Live sand, Live rock, salt water, and a carbon based filter system. Now you can either mix your own from a powder solution bought from a store or you can buy salt water from the store itself. Now they don't eat flaked food either. They eat small fish (silversides work well). If you are new to the Salt Water tank thing feel free to e-mail me and I will give you all the info you need. ladybug_o@yahoo.com

It can't be table salt, it has to be aquarium salt. The SG for a lionfish should be between 1.020-1.025. Get a hydrometer to monitor this.

it depends on the region where the fish came from. the specific gravity is different. also check the hardness.

Try looking on liveaquaria.com they have fish for sale, but they have all of the information that you will need about different types of lionfish.
