A better range of thoughts from different people from around the world they may not be after the RIGHT answer just what others think the answer maybe , that is the point on here isn't it?

Very few people on Yahoo Answers are actually seeking information. Most of them are just trying to bloat their "level" and get the most points. As a result, many people will either have their friends post pointless, easy to answer questions and then get picked as the "Best Answer" when they post little more than a fragment of a Wikipedia article.

I find it amusing that a few people have posted excuses like "Well ANYONE can edit a Wikipedia Article" as if Yahoo Answers, with it's random, unmoderated answers were any more reliable.

There was actually a study done earlier in 2007 that found Wikipedia, thanks to the tireless efforts of it;s editors, had a BETTER error rate than Encyclopedia Britannica. Yes, people vandalize Wikipedia, but those entries rarely last more than a few minutes to a few hours, you can view all the past versions of the article, and REAL researchers only use Wikipedia to get a general overview and a list of other resources.

Very few people contact others on Yahoo Answers for the sheer purpose of obtaining information. While it is more informative and better advised to get what you need to know at places like Wikipedia, it is also very interesting to hear the opinions and often humorous remarks of other people from around the world, as opposed to an encyclopedia's straight on, black and white facts. Some questions also pose social or circumstantial issues, which can only be answered by real people. Try asking Wikipedia how to tell if a boy likes you, or where you can snag Green Day tickets for their Illinois concert.

That's because Wikipedia lacks the human element. Yahoo answers is more appealing because your getting answers to questions from another human . Also some questions simply cant be answered by Wikipedia eg

Why is my son obsessed with Days of Our Lives
My 14 year old daughter seems to read a lot of books about sex and erotic adult stories is this normal???

Questions like that cant be answered by Wikipedia also some questions are relative Wikipedia may say one thing but someone in Yahoo Answers will tell you alternatives or loopholes/tidbits they have tried successfully OR unsuccessfully.

I use Yahoo answers for the human element and the communal feel but i use Wikipedia when i need more scientifc and proffessional answers .

Because Yahoo! Is a social information forum for
questions and answers to one another members
in the Yahoo! Community. It is sometimes better
to ask questions on Yahoo! Not just for social
fun but also for opinions. Depending on the
type of question. Some people don't know
about Wikipedia and don't even bother
looking in Encyclopedias or any other
information resources or
Dictionaries.

because wikipedia is technically an unreliable source. anyone can just go into an article and put in or take out any information they want. that's why some people might ask on here, because they're hoping people will have better sources than wikipedia!

Because people are either lazy, have nothing better to do, or just don't know that there are simpler ways of finding things out. And from what I've seen numerous times now, some people think that "yahoo answers" is a contest and want to have the most points by asking questions that are useless and unnecessary, and answering serious questions with "I dont know, blah! thanks for the 2 points, beats me, etc."

Most people only go to websites that their equally computer illiterate friends tell them about. The more exclamation points, bold, and curly fonts, the better, and drama is always a plus. Plus people on Wikipedia use big words.

When I found that Wikipedia was not the legitimate like Webopedia, and that anyone could put anything in it, I deleted the bookmark.
