Tampons can promote the growth of Staphylococcus aureus in the vagina. S. aureus (or "Staph" for short) is a bacterium that lives on the skin, usually harmlessly. However, when it can get into the vagina, it can proliferate. If it grows too much, it starts to churn out a toxin that gets into the bloodstream and causes TSS. Bear in mind, it's not the bacterial growth itself that causes TSS, it's the TOXIN secretion that causes TSS.
Tampons facilitate this bacterial growth by
1. Reducing acidity (raising pH) in the vagina
2. Introducing oxygen into the vagina
3. Not allowing stuff to escape, thereby incubating any pathogens
TSS is marked by:
1. Extreme drop in blood pressure
2. Sudden high fever
3. Organ failure
4. Peeling of the palms and soles
Other causes of TSS include bacteria such as Clostridium and invasive Group A Streptococcus.

Tampons absorb blood.Blood is an excellent culture medium. This is why they need to be changed on a regular basis. If they are not changed the warm excellent culture medium of blood allows bacteria to grow.Tampons are often "forgotten or lost" thinking that they have fallen out. the bacteria that grows is called staphylococcus aureus this produces a poison known as an exotoxin which is absorbed into the blood stream ultimately causing collapse and possible death. This how it happens.
TO ANSWER REBECCA are there no male gynaecologists who try to be supportive/sympatheic and try to give simple understanderable answers?.PLEASE dont shout or be judgemental.Remember men are husbands and fathers and often have direct experience of the conditions being discussed.likewise I would not judge/critisise a female who passes comment an a male prolem for the same reason

A tampon being inside the body is not natural, and the body will try to get rid of it on it's own. It creates bacteria in the dead blood and on the tampon that multiplies if not removed.
They say to use the smallest tampon you can because that reduces the potential bacteria able to grow on a larger tampon. Never leave a tampon in for longer than 2-4 hours, no matter what the box says. It's your body and you have to protect it with common sense that a tampon should not be left in for a long period of time. TSS can also cause infertility and death. On another note, WHY ARE ALL THESE MEN IN THE WOMEN'S HEALTH SECTION?

TSS is caused by staphylococcus aureus infection in the vagina. It can be prevented by hand washing, and changing tampons frequently as they are a favorable habitat for staph. In order to get TSS staph must be presented to the body from the hands or the tampon. Make sure to keep both very clean.

customary tampons are made utilising guy made components jointly with viscose rayon. many women adventure discomfort utilising guy made tampons, jointly with itching and burning sensations it quite is why I switched to qualified organic and organic cotton tampons (I even have been utilising Natracare for close to to 2 decades) and regrettably loss of life from utilising guy made tampons is likewise a fact. Dr. Phillip Tierno PhD, a Microbiologist on the huge apple college medical college, has been campaigning for over 30 years to have all synthetics, inclusive of rayon faraway from Tampons and referred to a hundred% cotton tampons as a greater secure option to assist cut back the prospect of TSS. ….“In sum, women who're devoid of shielding tiers of antibody to TSST-a million and use non all-cotton tampons are on the greater advantageous danger of TSS.” Make the change and spot in case you are able to experience the version

it is caused by a certain toxin that a bacteria that is present in some women's bodies creates, and ends up making you sick.
the tampons throw off the balance inside the vagina, and gives a new place for the bacteria to grow and flourish. that is why it is important to never ever leave a tampon in for more than 8 hours.
