I can see why your family is not impressed with him, just by what you have written. The fact that he does not want to put any effort into learning English says alot. In other words he's not really willing to put much effort into the relationship and this is the message your family is getting.
But on the other hand if your happy with the way the relationship is going, then continue with it, as its you he's spending his life with, not your family. Good luck

If the only reason they don't like him is that he won't speak English, then I would stay with him. He might want to learn English later on, but he also might think that learning a new language would be disrespectful to his own culture. I would find out his reasons not desire the need to learn English.
It will be difficult to be with him when your family doesn't speak his language, but it's possible. Do you speak his language? If not, how do you two communicate?

This comes down to your choice and ultimately you are married to your husband and not your family. Obviously if he could speak at least some English it would make communications easier for everyone but at the end of the day, you love him and if people can respect his heritage and he can respect your family, a caring and genuine effort can be made and a different form of communications can unfold.

Sure hope you can speak his language at least. Can't be good for a marriage if you can't speak the same language. If he really loved you he would try to learn English. Assuming you are living in the US.

I've been married 11 years to a wonderful man that my family absolutely despise. They have no reason to, they just decided he was beneath them while we were dating. They thought I could do better and wouldn't hesitate to tell me so. They acted happy at the birth of our first child 3 years ago and now I'm expecting number 2 and a few of them went as far as to suggest I abort the baby based solely on who the father is! I don't really speak to members of my family anymore since they can't respect my choices and my own family. Point being...sometimes to be happy in life, you have to go against your family's wishes.

So your husband deliberately doesn't want to communicate with your family? Does that sound fair to you? Doesn't sound fair to me.
