So ppl (using pc's) will send me excel files using just plain ole Arial 12 pt. Yet when I open it up on my mac, the words will still be readable but the spacing is all messed up. Between certain letters in a word, it will have too much space or be too crunched up! This is driving me crazy and everyone just blames the macintosh! LOL I'm ready to resolve this issue once and for all!!! Please help! =)

It's always easy to blame a mac, but I bet this is Microsoft's fault. First, make sure you have the most recent version of Excel.

A possible solution would be to select everything in the spreadsheet, convert it to another font and then back again. If it's printing you're worried about, try printing the spreadsheet anyways, as weird text spacing is often fixed during printing.

Hope this helped!

Hi,

The answer to this depends upon which versions of Excel are involved. Office 2003, 2004, and 2007 shipped with UniCode fonts. Older versions probably did not. So even theough both are called "ariel" they are actually different fonts .

On the Mac, Excel 2004 should give the best reproduction of Windows spreadsheets.
