The size of the air pump you need is determined by two things: How much air you want it to push out and how deep the water is at the outlet. These two thing are called volume and head pressure. Also consider this, the deeper the water, the less volume. You will want to read on the boxes or enclosed paper work what the volume is at the depth of your tank and look for several cubic feet per second to make a good amount of bubbles for an airstone that long. I would also suggest you get a pump that will produce at least some airflow at a depth around double that of your tank. This will mean the pump will not wear out as quickly.
