That the human mind so readily, and so commonly, imagines supernatural things (gods, spirits, astrology, numerology and other such nonsense) to explain natural phenomena. This may have been excusable in the distant past - before the methods of science were established and most people just acquired knowledge via authority. But in this modern world, knowing all that we know about how nature works, this ancient mental cop-out (I can’t explain this so it must have been god) should be long gone.

Some have suggested that our brains are hard-wired to believe in supernatural things and that this tendency may have been selected for in the evolution of our species. But, now that we know better shouldn’t this tendency go away?

I smelled the Rose of Sharon once. The only person in the entire congregation that smelled it that day. I also saw a little girl's hand grow back where there was no hand. My three year old took apart a playstation 2 with only a keyring of keys. I went fishing today and my wife didn't b*tch about it.

Shadow men.
I know they say it is a trick of the eyes and the periferal vision, or a trick of light. Caused by headlights passing by or something.
However, I and others who have actually seen shadowmen will tell you a number of things about them. 1) It wasnt in the periferal vision, and they didnt dissappear when we looked at them. 2) It wasn't in the dark, or when cars were passing by. 3) If they arent aware you are looking at them, they move along quite calmly. If they are aware, they bolt.

I have known too many people, including myself to encounter shadowmen to be able to discard it as a trick of light, or periferal vision.

There are the big mysteries of science, of course, like the nature of time, and of consciousness - but I like Wonderland's answer. Where do all those single socks go?
