Hypothetical scenario:

You have a young child, they are due to start school. You are allowed to choose their teacher. There are two candidates, and the only information you have is that one is a man and one is a woman. Who would you choose?

Come on, be decisive, this your child!

I've liked every male teacher I've ever had and most of the female teachers, so it most likely would be good either way. I had that choice once for my son and I chose the male teacher because my son is the only child of an only parent, and I put him with positive male role models every chance I got. It was a good decision.

The woman.
Based on the fact that Women tend to be better with young children (generally speaking).
Honestly Ive never even heard of a male kindergarten teacher.
Men do better with the older children.
I just don't think many have the nurturing and/or patience that it takes to work with kids just starting school.

The first answer to this question displayed the most obvious prejudice i have ever seen in my life. It is people like this who stop honest kind hearted men who simply love kids from doing a job they love and enjoy. This person should be ashamed of themselves for putting such an answer.

I am sorry to take such a stance on this persons answer, but I love kids i would never hurt a child in any way, I adore been with them and surrounded by them and working with children was the best job I ever had - It was a job I enjoyed and I never thought of it as work it was something I liked doing and knowing that I was making a difference to these kids lives made me feel good and it was people like the person who put the first answer to this question people who think (hes a man he cant work with kids hes up to no good) that forced me to quit because I was verbally abused, I was refused promotions and constantly criticized all because I was a man who had dared to chose to work with young children.

To the person who posted the first response - I fear what you are teaching your kids, to simply judge without question, to find guilty without reason - Be ashamed, be very ashamed

To answer the question - I would chose neither with out further information and if that was not available i would simply not put my child in school.

Why is this all the information I'm getting? Aren't I allowed to learn of their qualifications?

My mom is a music teacher in an elementary school. As far as I know, the youngest grade a guy teaches there is two, and the kids adore him.

At the risk of thumbs down, I would say a man.
Why? Because a good male teacher is a good role model for my sons.
But if my sons had female teachers, it's not to say that I would be unhappy or anything.

You are an intellegent lad and i compliment you on trying to explore the mindsets with this approach.

The information is not sufficent to make a selection.

In todays world both genders could be suitable or unsuitable.

Gender can never be the decisive factor in isolation or otherwise.

If that is the only information available, I would tell the principal to place my child with the teacher s/he felt would be the best match for my child.
After all, that's part of their job!

Probably the woman because they seem to have more patients with little kids stuff. If I had to choose for a pre-teen or teen I would pick the man.
