More then likely, it is either the battery or dirty connections at the battery posts.

It's got to be either a bad battery or a bad connection at one end of one of the battery cables. Disconnect both cables at both ends and wire brush the connections real good before reassembly. Then after jump starting, drive it long enough to fully charge the battery (at least 30min). If the battery is OK then it should start. If it still doesn't start then, I would assume the battery's dead and not holding the charge. Using a volt meter you should have at least 13.5v at the battery when the engine's running. If it's low then it's the alternator (on the internal regulator).

Yes it is the battery, if it were the starter the car would not even attempt to start even if you jumped it. And yes if you can remove the positive cable your alternator is charging. However I would still have it tested, most auto parts stores will test alternators for free. But you definately need a new battery.

To many ifs and buts here, I would take it to a professional battery shop, let them put their machine on it and test it for you. When a starter goes bad it pulls excessive amps too; which, your battery may not handle, even if it is good. Yes, you start by having the battery tested and getting the posts cleaned thoroughly. Also clean the ground cable where it bolts to the Engine. Clean the positive battery cable to the starter and all the connections there, too. Get the alternator tested too at your local Napa store or similar.

Alternators can work and then not work and then work again though correct about disconnecting the battery to check your alternator but this time leave it disconnected for about 5 minutes or so. Sounds to me like either an alternator problem or a battery problem.

It has to be the battery or the posative cable. Check yer connections to the starter from the pos batt cable and clean the posts on your battery and cables. If it still wont start then it is deffinantly yer battery
