Iraq was never a "good" war. There were never WMD. It has become an Al Queda side show designed to drain us of troops and power. Today a report in the news stated Al Queda had rebuilt. The most important part was they have a base in the Pakistani tribal lands. When you want to kill a snake first you focus on cutting off it's head. Then you find and burn out it's nest. Iraq has totally destracted us from the main focus of this war. And it should be focused on dystroying Al Queda and it's main supporters. Not some generic term like "war on terror". How many Americans out there agree with me?

I think we should be doubling or tripling the size of our military. We should be killing all of them anywhere we can find them. We should either make up our minds to fight this real enemy, or just give up, surrender, lay down and let them destroy us.

These people have stated their intention to the world, and proven many times over they are a real threat. How many more thousands of people have to die for us to wake up and realize this isn't going to stop by being "Nice". We must kill them anywhere they are. It is war. It isn't fun. It isn't pleasant, people die, but when your at war, you must be willing to sacrifice and do whatever it takes, or you lose. That is all you can do when you are dealing with religious fanatics.

First of all, Iraq is a military operation. One of many in this war, along with Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Noble Eagle (the U.S. homeland). Secondly, we fighting Al Queda and other Salafist Jihadists in Iraq, particularly in Al Anbar Province west of Baghdad. Over 80% of those killed by coalition forces are not Iraqis. They are practicing "Hijrah" (voluntary expatriation to carry out Jihad) and have come to Iraq.
The one facility which the Jihadists have perfected is media relations. They play the western media like a three buck banjo. Ergo, all you see and hear on TV news is how badly things are going.
It's going to be a long war. The President said as much on September 20, 2001. Deaths will occur. Although the death rate in Operation Iraqi Freedom is now where near the military death rate for 1980-84 when over 9,500 died on active duty, even though no one was shooting at us.
The reasons we launched Operation Iraqi Freedom are contained in Public Law #107-243, passed in 2002. The issue of WMDs was only one of seven reasons for launching offensive military operations against Iraq. Those reasons are almost exactly the same as the ones contained in Public Law #105-338 (the Iraq Liberation Act), passed on October 31, 1998!
I'm sorry all of the "media types" haven't mentioned all of this. But, you have to keep in mind that the TV news anchors belong to the same trade union as Jay Leno and David Letterman and the reporters are mainly graduates of university-based schools of journalism. Few, if any, presently assigned to cover Iraq can speak one word of Arabic or know the slightest thing about the background of our launching Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Western Civilization wants to stay in Iraq longer, much much longer, duh. They have unanimously applauded the departure of Saddam Hussein and his criminal thugs, and they would like an Iraqi Government that conforms to international standards of law and order. Does anyone disagree with this proposal?

The WMD arguments are moot now, milk spilled and waters way past under the bridge.

Regarding arresting Al Qaeda, don't you think that having established a pro-Western, pro-American republic of Iraq that Al Qaeda can be confronted more directly from fortified bases right there in the cradle, Mesopotamia, mere minutes for attack aircraft to engage terrorist activity? Don't you understand that the engagement with Al Qaeda is a military enterprise?

Certainly we need to focus our attentions, but Al Qaeda now has a significant presence in Iraq, muchh greater than than they had prior to March 2003. Why should we abandon Iraq to the criminal insurgency, and then perhaps have to go back there an do it all over again? That is most stupid!

My understanding of the Middle East concludes that a pro-Western constitutional Republic of Iraq that allows state of the art fortified American military bases will offer a very good deterrent to the anti-American threats from Al Qaeda and Co. and Iran.

We all prefer peace and cooperation, but we must be realistic when confronting radical Islamists.

Afganistan went to war with Russia a super power.
It slowly chipped away at it and they couldn't fight back because it wasn't a nation but a gang. So as they went after certain people the Americans help Afganistan with weapons and ammo. They totally destroyed the Russian economy.
they didn't win the war, but Russia lost. It was no longer a super power. The same is happening again. There is no real enemy for the soldiers to fight. Even the police they have been training is now on the other side.
It keeps draining the economy and is destroying the country worse than and all out war. They know what they are doing.
It has worked before and it is working again;.
After Russia now the next super power.
They haven't taken America over but they have certainly destroyed its creditability. Now it is ruining is's economy.
They are not winning the war but USA is losing the war.
Just like they did with Russia.

Okay- to start off with Americans ventured to Iraq to “help” innocent people. Under the rule of Saddam thousands were dieing, one he was out of the picture Americans and who ever else was there should have left. But they stayed which angered possible terrorists and left a window open for possible attacks. America brought the whole “war on terror” junk among themselves. Personally I think troops should have been pulled out as soon as Saddam was captured. “ The head had been cut” to use your theory.

There WERE weapons of mass destruction, just no record of where they went or how they were disposed of. Regarding the war, we started out with good intentions. But, now that the new government is dragging their feet and failing to meet progress objectives, it is time to get out. If they can't stand up for themselves, we can't continue to be their protectors forever. The last straw, to me, is that their leaders now want to take August off. My son is with the Army's 1st Cav in Baghdad, and you can bet they are not getting August off. Bring the troops home and let them defend our own country here. Enough is enough!!!

I truly don't know. I wish we had never gone to Iraq, but I fear that if we pull out now, it will be like Afghanistan and the Taliban all over again. The terrorists will take over, because nobody else can, and things will be worse than ever.
