A friend would like to help more than once as long as it's not for the same old stuff over and over again, like every time you start cutting or falling off the wagon again and they're the one you call each and every time.

It depends. Say you asked if he could give you a lift to the airport at 3am then asked for money, then on an on...that would be wrong and annoying
Of course say you asked if you couold borrow a pen, then asked if he wanted to come over and shoot hoops, maybe later ask if he could housesit with pay, that would be fine
