OOps. I should of specified the figurative human heart. Some of the inspiration for this question is "The Grinch who Stole Christmas" and "Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde".

The more one does love and appreciates the love they receive, the more they will have the capacity to love. Love is boundless. It is selfless.

We can do no great things;
only small things with great love.

There is a terrible hunger for love.
We all experience that in our lives - the pain, the loneliness.
We must have the courage to recognize it.
The poor you may have right in your own family.
Find them.
Love them.

The success of love is in the loving
- it is not in the result of loving.
Of course it is natural in love to want the best for the other person,
but whether it turns out that way or not
does not determine the value
of what we have done

The potential for love in the human heart can increase by practicing love, especially toward the unloveable. Christ said, "Love one another."

We are also taught that God is love. So striving to know God more and have a personal, daily relationship with Him will certainly increase the potential for love in our hearts.

And remember, love is not a feeling. Love is an action. "Love hopes all things, bears all things, believes all things. Love never fails."

Openness of mind. As we get tossed and turned on the path of life the Pavlov effect begins to take place. We, as intelligent humans have to be able too see through our own fears, take control of our reflexes, and then open our minds unconditionally to love and then we can reciprocate love. Easier said than done.

It can't.

Love, and the potential capacities for love, have nothing to do with the human heart, unless that heart stops beating and the person in question falls over dead (which significantly DECREASES the potential for love).

Love is an emotional condition, which is more commonly attributed to the mind.

By letting go of the need for love. When humans deal with the fear of rejection, the fear of abandonment and the fear of being alone, emotional outcomes improve overall.

People just have to make a real, sincere and genuine effort to love other people around them. It is sometimes harder than other times.
