The past would win.

These new players don't know fundamental basketball. Besides that, the defense in the NBA sucks nowdays. They would get thrashed by the past mainly because they wouldn't know how to play around the defense (the same way NBA players suck on the international scene). And Kevin Garnett shouldn't start over Tim Duncan. Allen Iverson shouldn't be on the bench either; there are better guards than him.

In retrospect, the past would win because:

-The present "superstars" are nothing more than egotistical ballhogs
-The present players for the most part don't know how to play defense
-The present players are all style over substance. They look for flashy plays rather than plays that'll score the most
-The past players know teamwork
-The past players have better defense
-The past players play textbook fundamental basketball, the present doesn't
-Million other reasons I don't feel like mentioning

Not a bad question ...but I do question the past team.
The Center should be Bill Russell and you don't even have him on the bench nor do you have John Stockton.
But I do Believe that Squad ( The past squad ) would loose. Neither Jabbar nor Wilt could stop Shaq. And Shaq plays D. So does Garnett and Ducan.
Put in Russell, Stockton and Rodman and the present team would be crushed.
The reason being is that Magic, and Bird would pass more than they would shoot giving Jordan the chance to be the man.
Russell starting and Rodman coming off the bench would help with Defense and boards. Your best rebounders on your past team are on the bench in Malone and Barkley. If you don't say goodbye to Doc and Drexler and Wilt.
Your Past team would loose 4-2 however make some changes and the past team would win 4-1

Past.

Both teams have the potential to score 150 points so defense would win.

Magic and MJ are the best ever in their positions. Nash is a defensive liability. Kobe is as close as you get to Jordan but again Jordan is a better overall defender.
LeBron vs Bird is the best match-up for" present", but pippen is an excellent choice here. Also, Malone would match-up better against Garnett.
I haven't seen Wilt play but probably he was similar to Shaq in his prime. (By the way, where is Bill Russell?) Also, I remember how Hakeem schooled Shaq in the finals.
Past bench packs a lot of toughness. Other than Duncan, present bench is just more scorers.

First of all on that past team there is no way Russell, Pistol,
Oscar or West does not make that team. Remove Drexler,
Baylor, Malone.

Now the old school wins Magic will out play Nash; Jordan will
outplay Bryant, Karreen will out play Garnett and Bird would shoot the eyes off the ball and be a step ahead mentally of everybody on the floor. His asset was not necessarily his athleticism but his intelligence on the floor. Then we bringin
Russell, Dream, Pistol and Pippen along with West off the bench. And with the new school Wade has to start over Nash
and Kidd would have to be on my bench. Duncan is the best
PF ever to play the game based on his intelligence too.
He would start instead of Garnett. Garnett cant play Jabbar
in the post. The old school would also win based on playing
both ends of the floor, Nash, McGrady, Arenas, Dirk and Iverson would be exploted on defense because they are liabilities. Shaq is not going to out score or out rebound Wilt
or Dream. And Doc.... well Doc is Doc especially in his prime. Quicker, more speed, tight on defense. We already
know about his offense. Great game but old school wins as
Magic, Bird, and Air controls the game. Old school needs to find somwhere for Stockton and Zeke to play.

the past will win. if you were talking about the past players in their prime, than yes, the correct answer will be the past because, look at all those legends!! and no one can stand a way with MJ and Magic together. look, they won't be standing anything with wilt around. he has already gotten 100 in a game. plus kareem is one of the best shot blockers of all time and one of the best players. kobe v.s. MJ??? dude you know that MJ is just gonna dunk on kobe every time he gets that ball. how many times have we seen MJ dunk on patrick ewing, eh?we saw that a million times. and when kb24 can finally stop that good old dunk, MJ will step back and nail a long 3-pointer. larry? oh, boy he's one of the best ever to play the game too! he's such a excellent 3-point shooter, that the current players will not WILL NOT stand one chance.

The past would rout them, I don't remember a past Dream Team loosing in the Olympics, can the present say that. The problem with the present players is that they have no passion for the game, it's all about money and moving to a team that has the best chance of winning a championship.

Finally, how dare you leave off Garry Peyton and Dennis Rodman on the past team they were two of the most dominant defenders in the league.

Past team. Team work is not a better side of today's NBA players. here is an example, an olimpics 2000 when Carter jumped over that guy and had a Garnet just couple feet of him open to dunk. When you put all superstars in your team, do not expect of them to cooperate. Except Nash maybe. That is off course if anyone gives the back their condition from 10 or 15 years ago ( to the old players )

The past would slaughter the present. Even if the talent level were considered relatively even, which it wouldn't be, the players of the past knew how to play together as a team. There is too much selfish play in today's NBA. They can't even win the Olympics for crying out loud. I would have Pistol Pete coming off the bench for the old timers though.

previous, palms down. All they ought to do is placed Malone on Howard. not in elementary terms will Malone pass Howard interior the paint, he will pull him out on protection along with his 18 ft jumpshot. Then Wilt will dominate Amar'e down low. next, who's gonna safeguard Magic? he will somewhat dominate CP3. If the swap him to MJ and permit LeBron safeguard Magic, Jordan will in basic terms make Chris Paul seem stupid. Beside, in spite of what everybody says, Kobe's recognition as a All NBA defender is undeserved and he can not safeguard Jordan, component clean. Larry Birds' taking pictures and passing skill stretches the floor and makes all of his teammates that particularly extra risky interior the p.c.. and roll and iso, for the reason which you won't have the ability to pass away everybody yet possibly Magic open, which remains a danger. the present team would have no possibility except they performed at present particularly of the two communities of their best.

Past easily.

Most NBA players these days care more about their individual stats then their team. Look at what happened to the olympic team, we had the best talent in the world but we lost horribly because they didn't play together as a team.
