A one way relationship that puts the UK in a subordinate position, with no reciprocal action from the USA that would indicate there is anything special at all.
"Special relationship" is a fantasy term used by the media.

Hello,
(ANS) The so called special relationship is based on the arms trade, ever since the second world war. The UK has been buying arms & missiles & nuclear weapons (W.M.D.'s) & aircraft from the USA for decades and thats the real nature of the so called special relationship.
**Looks like the UK government has just agreed to replace Trident and buy the next version from the US yet again. It's a total and utter waste of several billion pounds of tax payers money given that the biggest global threat isn't from any of the old super power states but from Islamic terrorists and trident will be useless for protecting us here in the UK from that.
Thats why I say its a waste of money, all that money is spent to flatter the politicians ego's in my opinion.
**No! the special relationship should be cooled down and stopped. Stop kowtowing to the USA.
Ivan

It's only 'special' because we are nearer to Russia, and the middle east, and ultimately makes it easier for them to attack them if the day ever comes.
This small island means nothing to most of the people living here, so why the hell should the US be bothered about it, unless it was in their interest to do so?
As for 'should it continue?', we are a very small brother who gobs off at all the bullies, and without our big brother we would get stamped on. And sometimes, I think we deserve a good smack in the mouth for being so cocky about where we stand in the world.
But, being an island, and proud, we (the people who know here as home) would defend ourselves fiercely when attacked.

Oddly enough, I think George Washington's farewell address was one of the best speeches in American history.
"So likewise, a passionate attachment of one nation for another produces a variety of evils. Sympathy for the favorite nation, facilitating the illusion of an imaginary common interest in cases where no real common interest exists, and infusing into one the enmities of the other, betrays the former into a participation in the quarrels and wars of the latter without adequate inducement or justification. It leads also to concessions to the favorite nation of privileges denied to others which is apt doubly to injure the nation making the concessions; by unnecessarily parting with what ought to have been retained, and by exciting jealousy, ill-will, and a disposition to retaliate, in the parties from whom equal privileges are withheld. And it gives to ambitious, corrupted, or deluded citizens (who devote themselves to the favorite nation), facility to betray or sacrifice the interests of their own country, without odium, sometimes even with popularity; gilding, with the appearances of a virtuous sense of obligation, a commendable deference for public opinion, or a laudable zeal for public good, the base or foolish compliances of ambition, corruption, or infatuation."

It's not like us bending over and them giving it to us; it's more like we're an inflatable sex doll.
I don't see any benefits on our side; it's just made a load of Islamic extremists hate us even more. Cordial relations with the USA should be maintained, but we have to stop being so clearly America's bjtch.
