I bought the package with the fan in it and the package came and it just had a fan and the processor, no thermal paste. The instructions dont mention, or show, putting on thermal paste before installing it and turning it on so I am wondering whether I need it or not.

Also, what is the optimal running temperature of this processor?

I believe with most Core 2 Duos, there is a thermal pad already on the bottom of the heat sink, so you don't need additional paste.

there is a thermal pad on the underside of the fan, you dont need thermal paste. thermal paste will lower the operating temp 2-5 C so it is an option if you want to overclock but the fan and thermal pad are sufficient for minor overclocking.

side not intel price cuts 7/22 you should return and wait the 10 days because the price cuts are almost 30%
