To some people magic is a real part of the world. Magic is just a way of moving energy to a desired end.
If you cast a spell it is a way to get something accomplished by building energy, programming it, and releasing it into the world to bring into the world something that you want.
Some people think that everything that cannot be explained is magic. I practice a healing art form known as Reiki. Some people believe it it magick but that is not my personal belief.

It's a philisophical question. Existence. Does anything really exist or is it just a concept in our head? Nothing we can think of in our heads exists to perfection in the outside world. Every scientific model is at the very least somewhat wrong. We can never know the outside world, just conceptualize it.
As far as magic goes, define magic. Supernatural? If something happened wasn't it natural? I mean it happened right. It happened in the world we know. Is it magic because we haven't seen it before? Does the first time for anything make it magic? Is that the definition?
Or maybe it's just how we percieve it. I can take an event I've never seen before or doesn't happen very often and I can say it's magic. Or, I can also say, "Hmmm. Maybe I need to expand my knowledge of what's natural. Why not just incorporate what I've just seen into my understanding of natural? I though that this couldn't happen by natural law but maybe I'm wrong about that. Maybe my idea of what can happen naturally needs to be expanded or modified?" Now, maybe neither one of these views, magic or expand natural law, is the "right" way to view it. That's an assumption that most people make, is that there is one right way to look at things. The idea of magic and expanded natural law both can fit the scenario. It's an emotional choice that makes one or the other real. We choose the reality in this case.

I think that's like asking if God is real or not. In both cases, it's a matter of faith. To those who believe in it, it's real. To those that don't, it's hooey. And between those groups lie a bunch of people who would like to believe, but can't sort out the truth from the fiction, and another big bunch who never think about it at all with their heads full of the daily gradgrind.
According to Aleister Crowley, the most famous wizard of the 20th century and in some ways the father of modern magick, magick is "the art or science of causing change in conformity with will ... it investigates the laws of Nature with the idea of making use of them". So according to modern practitioners of magick, it's about humans dominating Nature. That's some big thinking. It takes a lot of believing. I'm still not sure, but I'm not confused.
The way to deal with confusion is first to recognise your ignorance (which you have done by asking this question) and then to accept it and open your mind to the wisdom of others.
I am reading a truly excellent book about all this at the moment - "The Triumph of the Moon - a history of modern pagan witchcraft" by Ronald Hutton (Oxford University Press, 1999). It's quite heavy going in places, but really fascinating and very objective, written by a respected Professor of History. I would really recommend it to you - it's the nearest thing to an unbiased view you're likely to find on this. Some Answerers recommended it to me last week! Thanks to them if they're reading - blessed be.

I have often wondered about this and there are many things that cannot be explained in scientific terms and labeled magic but what this phenomena really is is the real question. I am apprehensive of 'magic' myself.

Some people believe magic is real, but in my opinion it's not. Some people believe that voo-doo and such will help them kill people, or help them win the lottery but it's just something made up! Then again I don't believe in ghosts either, although I do believe in the after life. I think people should believe how ever they want regardless of how others want them to believe. Believe it if you want, but you can't fly on a broom stick like harry potter! Don't let anyone pressure you into believing something that you don't want to believe in. Some people say that magic is ONLY real if you believe in it, but the truth is:
You can step out in front of a bus, and believe it's not there, but that doesn't make the bus go away, so you would get hit by that bus. you could also climb out of your window thinking a bridge will save you because you believe it's there, but you fall because there's nothing but air. My point is some things are real whether you believe in them or not.

I do not beleive in 'POOF! A pink unicorn!' kind of magic. But I do beleive that we can harness natures energy and put it back out into the world in a way that creates a favored result. It may seem supernatural to some, but if you think about it, it's only a form of manipulation.

Yes, magic is real! Wicca and Paganism are a few religions that demonstrate magick.

About what?
If you are expecting visible fireballs or miraculous changes in behavior, then I am not surprised.
True magick is subtle in its details and results--but it does work. It is result of using conscious intent to manipulate the universe. It does take a great deal of concentration and focus--a lot of effort. Hence, it generally only works when the result is important to the worker.
