Yes, next they will be consulting a Ouija board.

Chertoff is getting desparate to justify even having a Homeland Security Dept and all of the bells and whistles and Extralegal powers that go with.
The FBI isn't helping. The agency that Bush and Chertoff claim is "inadequate for the Counterterrorist Role," is breaking up terrorist plots left and right through good, oldfashioned police work, without violating anybody's Rights.
For that matter, what happened to Republicans hating Big Governement? They've not only expanded the size of government, they're staffing the agencies with partisans and patronage workers, rather than pros. Sounds like bloated government to me.
Chertoff isn't listening to his gut. He's grasping at straws to justify his job.

Well I think using the term "gut" feeling was moronic, but there is a place for such things in the intelligence world.
You rarely have the complete picture when it comes to intelligence. Sometimes you have to put the pieces you have together and try to see what could be happening.
I am a facts/detail type of person, but I realize that sometimes you have to guess because you might lack all the information. Intelligence is an area where you almost never have a complete view of the situation because some detail is missing. This is where the educated guess comes into play.

When Michael Chertoff has a stomach ache it means a terrorist attack is coming? Yep. The Homeland security department is worthless. It's a waste of trillions of taxpayer dollars and it doesn't do anything. It's run according to politics instead of facts. We already have agencies with enough money and manpower to protect the country.

It's not as bad as you make it out to be. Usually they have much more advanced and reliable means of assessing future threats. It's just that Chertoff had dropped his Magic 8-Ball and broke it earlier that day.

You take one comment and you submit that one comment as a government policy. You may be foolish enough to believe that is the case, but the rest of us take the comment for what it was intended, just a comment off the cuff, an opinion during the course of conversation.
I can understand your dislike for the present administration, but you cheapen your argument when you ask us such a foolish question and expect us to buy into your prejudice.

I don't even understand what Homeland Security is for. Wasn't the CIA supposed to be doing that job.

What I thought was interesting was the very next day, it was "sort of" announced that Al-Queda has suddenly come back to life and is making plans to attack the US again.
Then, later, the Crawford Bush says "we are winning the war".....
I don't believe anything ANY of them say....they all lie to cover up, they all lie to cover their butts, they lie to the media, they lie to us..... All they want is to do all they can to avoid accountability.... They will do or say anything, use any means to avoid having to face the American people with the truth about anything......

Do you want statistical evidence for everything, or can you just not accept the fact that professionals follow their nose?
Thats like telling a Detective not to go on any hunches with a murder case.
Awesome train of thought. Thanks for raising my self esteem.

What he said was that the amount of chatter was up to the levels it was before 9/11. While there were no specific threats the sheer volume of chatter was making him feel uncomfortable. My suggestion is for him to quit trying to communicate with liberals and just do his job. If something happens he can let the media do the reporting. There....does that shut you people up?

Substitute "F Troop" for "B Team". Not only does it sound better but you can work in a wonderful classic pop culture reference, too.
