I was just curious. I'm going to stand in line to get my book, but I haven't actually purchased it yet. Is it possible to buy it when it releases at midnight or do I have to preorder it? If you could let me know, that would be great! :)

You may be able to buy it at midnight, but I would recommend reserving a copy at the store you plan to buy from. This way you will be sure to have one available to purchase at that time.

Wal~Mart will have the books ready for sale at 12:01a.m. on the 21st. No waiting until after daylight to buy it. No pre-ordering. Should be on a display rack not far from the front doors. Also cheaper to buy there than at many stores and book stores.
PS. All Wal~Mart employees take the pledge to not disclose the contents of the book since it is the last book of the series and still have movies yet to come out on Book 6 The Half Blood Prince.

Preorder it. Definetley. Amazon is a good place.
Even if you go to the bookstore at midnight, you'll be waiting in line till at least 2:00. When Order of the Phoenix came out, my dad and I were number 1,576. And we live in a fairly small town. You probably won't get it. Even if you do get it at midnight, are you going to read it half awake at 1:00? There's no point. Preorder it from an Internet source like amazon.com, you'll get it the day it comes out.

There will probably be extra copies available for those who didn't pre-order. However, last time around they (at least Barnes and Noble) was allowing people who pre-ordered have a chance at them first and there were none left by the time those who pre-ordered had gotten their books plus any extras they wanted.

You can still pre-order at quite a few places though. Just give them a call and most likely you'll be able to get one.

Unless you pre-ordered the book, then you will have to wait to see they have books leftover after giving out the books to those who ordered them. Those who pre-ordered will get theirs first, then anyone in line who did not pre-order will be able to get a copy if they have any left over. Keep in mind that anyone who pre-ordered but who does not show up for the midnight release will have their copy set aside.

If you preorder it you don't have to worry about where you are in line, because you know that your going to get it, but if you buy it there you better be first in line, before they get sold out.

I have preordered mine just to be sure. I live in Spain so the number of english editions are limited unless you get them from an english shop.

I got mine at midnight last time without a pre-order. The big deal is getting in the store before the fire code limit of people are in! Pre-orders won't get you preferential treatment if you're stuck outside!

I higly reccomend preordering it, because if you plan on waiting in the line the night before it's release, chances are they will be sold out.

Definitely pre-order it on Amazon.com or Borders.com to have it delivered on the day that it comes out. Pre-ordering it at a bookstore means having to go to the bookstore at midnight to pick it up. While ordering it to be delivered means that when you wake up the morning of, it should be at your house already.
