I can think of a few people that I'd love to see running, but you're right, like everyone else, they'd be torn to shreds and back. Who needs it?

No, mediocre is not good enough, and it should not be for Congress either.
However we are left with the choices presented us and therefore it is our responsibility to vote.
Of all of the candidates I like Romney but he will not get it because of the secularists. Then of course there is Rudy, who is the only one so far to put down his plan for the future, quite brave of him I believe.
Of the non-candidates clearly Fred Thompson is the guy. There are two points about Fred, the leftists are pushing Paul to divide the conservative vote I believe, why else would a democrat tell us he is going to vote for Paul, and secondly and this is perhaps the most important, the leftists are in full attack mode on Fred, they have essentially abandoned all the rest and are going at him with a vengeance.

NO,you make a good point about good people who would never consider running for President(or any political office maybe?)thanks to the paparazzi mentality.I don't agree all candidates running now are mediocre,I'm afraid that description fits GOP candidates.Democrats have a luxury of several credible candidates who could win.
I'd wish Bruce Wayne would run

You expect the next great American hero to be elected every eight years, but the truth is we are not. We are a nation of mediocrity (or lower) and the best we can pull off is what is up there running for president.

we have no choice but to take mediocrity.
if we demand anything else we'll have no one to vote for.
a common, non-rich person can't run. campagins are far too expensive
and the best person will have something about them that is human- that is imperfect- and they will be crucified by the media and whoever opposes them
I really wish Sen. R. Feingold would run. I think he avoids it because of how the media would react. I understand wanting to avoid that bashing

even if every American boycotted and didn't vote, the Electoral College would still elect a president.. so it is better to vote for the best of the choices, even if you believe them all to be mediocre, than to not vote at all.
Off hand I can't think of anyone I would recommend.. but it would probably be someone who had show strong leadership ability.. but had never been involved in politics.

Yes. for president, former New Jersey senator Bill Bradley (Gore's only Democratic competition in 2000). In a fantasy-land bipartisan dream team, his running mate could be the very conservative, yet sensible and very experienced Senator Richard Lugar (R-Indiana), whose foreign policy advice would be only about 9000 times more responsible than Dick Cheney's.
Good luck getting either one to run. Plus, while these guys have the gravitas, experience, and smarts, they're both pretty boring, and neither likes the partisan mud-flinging blame game very much. The media doesn't like boring, regardless of qualifications.

“outside of the present contenders who you feel is truly qualified for the office” I kinda like Lou Dobbs, but I’d prefer to have him on the “Outside” looking in.
Nobody, None at all have impressed me. I’m not sure there any people in the U.S.A. that have enough money to make it to an election, that truly care about the United States of America and that piece of paper formally known as “The U.S. Constitution.
