an information on trojans said i could be infected but i have a very updated anti-virus software. as a matter of fact, i installed my pc with a security suite from a very popular company. i always scan my pc and update my signatures everyday. my pc is clean. what could have possibly caused my mouse moving like that by itself?
is an updated AV software is enough or do I need a separate "anti-trojan" software if there is any? if there is, what is the specific name of the program? thanks a lot....

If your computer is clean of viruses, then i'm assuming that it really is your mouse (if you have a ball mouse as opposed to a optical mouse) in which case you have to take out the ball and clean the inside, or your optical mouse could be blocked with a crumb or something...

if indeed it is a trojan, then your AV should locate it...i can't help you too much on that

That happens to me from time to time. Looks creepy, but I think it's just a glitch with my optical mouse.

I run Norton Antivirus, Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D religiously (two of them as scheduled tasks), so I'm not worried about anything inhabiting my machine.

By the way, the main difference between trojans, viruses and worms is how they're propagate, not what evils they do. Any anti-virus software will also be looking for trojans and worms.

Is this a laptop? If it is, you may want to update the drivers for the touchpad/pointing stick.

Try a different mouse and see if it does the same thing, or when it moves by itself, unplug the mouse and see if it still does it.

You don't live on a boat do you? That would cause your mouse to go back and forth. You could try suspending your computer desk from springs mounted to the ceiling, add a little more stability.

Try cleaning out the mouse.
Mine does that too - it also 'faints' [ sinks down and disappears ].
If that doesn't help - call the software people.
