Is there a link between the banning of smoking on aircraft and Air Rage? If so, as people in England (the most violent culture in Western Europe) become more frustrated by the smoking ban, mixed with alcohol, could this lead to an even more violent street culture than we have already?

Would that necessarily be a bad thing for civil liberties? Sometimes you need to push it to get things inequalities changed.

dave s - Nice to see what a tolrant person you are and respect the views of other people. Having looked at your profile and see the only other intresing thing in your life is "bashing the Mcanns after losing their child" I can only conclude that you are a TOSSER.

I have not been out since the ban came into effect.

Interesting to know whether there is likely to be hoards of people hanging outside pubs having a cig. Will probably be mean more people hanging around the streets than before, especially on Fri and Sat nights. May cause more trouble than before.

Not sure on the link between smoking and Air Rage and the statistics. I would have thought there was a connection.

I see no connection with banning smoking and 'air rage' or any kind of violence, and to suggest this is a bad slur on smokers, because you're implying they're all potentially nutters who'll go mental if they can't light up whenever they want to!

I've never witnessed or experienced that about smokers. Are suicide bombers just smokers frustruated at not having a ***? Perhaps smoking is the root cause of all violence? Of course it's not, don't be silly.

Personally I think the smoking bans in the UK have gone too far. I used to smoke heavily, but quit over ten years ago and I hate the habit, but it's NOT actually illegal to smoke in the UK, so I feel it's twisting civil liberties very much to persecute smokers so much these days - soon they'll be banned from smoking in any space and will have to wear special spaceman-like suits to smoke in so their fumes are totally contained! I understand about secondhand smoke, etc, but until smoking is actually illegal there should at least be more choice for smokers i.e. smokers pubs.

smokin has been banned on aircraft for about 10 years now ,air rage or any other rage is not a new thing .Has nothing to do with smoking. When you get a idiot start then thats because they are an idiot .I also think that you are a bit over the top describing the English as a violent culture ,It is a sophisticated culture adopted by most of the world.

As a smoker, i replaced into very flow to awaken this morning and hear that smoking in my automobile - which I do generally - is now banned. No notice, no warning. My automobile isn't a corporation automobile, I hardly have passengers (and if I do, i do no longer smoke) and that i do no longer do away with my cigarettes out of my window. I even have been smoking longer than I even have been utilising, and that i can truthfully locate and easy-weight a cigarette without taking my eyes off the line - i discover it extra distracting attempting to alter the radio station. And in 15 years of smoking on an identical time as utilising, I even have under no circumstances as quickly as dropped a cigarette in my lap. After basically somewhat study, in spite of the undeniable fact that, i got here across that smoking isn't banned, as such - it is basically against suggestion. in case you're utilising dangerously, committing a utilising offence or in contact in an accident on an identical time as smoking, then you truly will face a extra severe penalty. in spite of the undeniable fact that, smoking on your automobile is considered inadvisable quite than unlawful and a contributary factor in case you do something incorrect. So, I shall nonetheless be fortunately lights up on an identical time as utilising - it is related to the only place i can smoke without pissing somebody off in recent times.

The banning of Smoking anywhere doesn't contribute to rage. Individuals who have difficulties expressing their frustrations in positive ways, usually are the ones to commit air rage, road rage, bar rage, sports rage, any & all types of rage in a negative way that affects the innocent people around them & that includes family & friends! They give themselves permission to behave irresponsibly & in ways that is not acceptable to others. Using an issue like banning smoking is an exuse to behave badly, just like the many many exuses smokers use to explain why they can't quit, instead of the main reason which is cigarettes & other are addictive, due to the substances the tobacco industry puts into these products & if one wants to quit they need as much help as society has to offer.
PS - initial reactions to any smoking bans, no matter where is usually an unwelcome one, but for those of us who've had these bans in place for over 10 years, it's no big deal & ya.... the ratio of those smoking has gone down. It's better for everyones health all around. And healthy people make happy people which in turn makes a less violent society.

What makes you think England is the most violent culture in western Europe?

Our 'culture' is a mongrel. No one living here has an identity anymore. And if anyone tries to state their views, opinions or beliefs, it is quickly dubbed as racism, sexism or not politically correct.

Violence is always a direct result of an inability to communicate effectively. When people are gagged, or feel they cannot express their feelings openly, they lash out, and usually at each other.

You could well be right, especially about the 'air rage', but smoking is going to disappear from western society whether we like it or not. I do think it will cause local problems like you describe, but the overall benefit will be much greater in the long run. I gave up year ago but I hate those smug ex smokers! I just wish you all good luck in giving up when you are ready to do so.

Smoking bans are great. If smokers are so addicted to their habit that they become enraged then it just shows how pathetically addicted they are. Nicotine is a very powerful drug and a known killer. Hopefully, one day, people will see the stupidity that was smoking and wonder why anyone ever did it.

Why do you say England has the most violent culture in Europe. I've seen some pretty dire things in many continental countries including Germany, Spain, France, and Italy that far out weigh anything I've seen in England. Oh and why do you think the police in most European countries carry guns? Is it because of the peace loving residents or are they just preparing for when we English visit them?

I dont care if there is a link between banning smoking on aircraft and Air Rage.

If you cant control your emotions out in public because of your habit ......... tough. Haul you straight off the aircraft, put you in jail and make you meet the costs of having to divert the aircraft.

What sort of excuse is it that because smokers are grumpy we should just give into their demands. I once flew on a flight from Australia to Sweden and got stuck in the smoking section. I felt sick the entire flight. Why should my health have to suffer because smokers need to feed their habit at my expense.

Sorry no sympathy one iota here for smokers. And I dont even care if that upsets some of the Daves Babes LOL .........
