I think this "was the" one

See, whenever I speak this sentence in even moderate speed, I always say, "was da".

Breathe out a little from your mouth and touch the two front teeth with your tongue. You should still be able let air out between your tongue and teeth. Once you have that down, hum. That should be the "th" part. Then, follow up by saying "ee" or "uh" and that is how you pronounce "the." I think you are touching your teeth first (holding your breath), then letting the air out when you say the "uh" part. Keep practicing. My parents are asian and they have the same problem. By the way, if you can read this comment and pronounce the words with "th," you can say "the."

C'mon ..bday' - I gave you such a kind response to your poem and you ask that ??

'gary b' - sorry about that - had to.

The French have a perfectly awful time trying to pronounce 'diphthongs' such as "th".

No doubt many other peoples may also have this problem.

One of your responders has the answer, but it's still difficult for one who has never used the method in every day speech.

I tried 40 years ago to teach a young French-Canadian girl to say the word 'three' - it always came out 'tree'. I was then reasonably able to carry on a conversation in French and told her about how to place her tongue - no chance - even one so young.

Best - Mark B.

To pronounce "the" correctly, put the tip of ur tongue between ur teeth as u say it. If u don't; if ur tongue is kept behind the teeth, u will say "da" Hope this helps

Make your tongue curl slightly under your top teeth for the "th" sound in "the." You're allowing your tongue to drop.
