Islam is actually a very peaceful religion and Christians and Muslims lived in peace for many, many years. Then came the crusades.
Allah says you are not allowed to raise your hand in violence unless your life is in imminent danger.
Fundamentalism in any religion is dangerous, Christianity, Mormonism, Islam, etc. The real problem in Fundamentalist Islam pertaining to violence against Christians, women, etc. is the context in which the Quran is read and interpreted. If you are woman and you read that Allah says that you can have four wives but you must treat them all equally so you should have only one, it is read that men only get one wife. If you are a man in a patriarchal society where men run every aspect of life, then you will read the same passage as saying Allah wants me to have four wives.
If you are interested in learning about Islam without any prejudice, go to your local college and look for a class on it. The sociology department is a good place to start. Professors have nothing to gain or lose by telling the truth and having you study the Quran in it's original context. You will also probably learn a lot more history than was taught to you in your high school text books.
Remember ~ the people we are "at war" with are not mainstream Muslims. They are Fundamentalists that are twisting their scripture to fuel the hate they feel towards others. These people are a very small minority in the Islamic community.

Almost every religion has killed in the name of God. Today we see a lot of Muslim/Islamic violence but not long ago the IRA was an issue Muslims didn't do it but Catholics.
You can also recall the crusades and the Native Americans who now live on reservations. I worry because one day a radical group might make a dirty bomb or poison people. This faith rewards people who die for the cause. Although not every Muslim follows the Koran to the letter many don't speak out against its radicals out of fear. Some just want to live life. Today it is the predominant threat to world peace.

Currently, I have no doubt and I believe that is because so many of the "mullahs" are stuck in the Middle Ages. During that time, Christianity was quite violent too although it was the Muslim invasions of the Christian Middle East in the 600s that started the Christian/Islam mess. From the 600s through the 1600s, Muslims continued to invade Christian lands and forcibly convert. After that, the western nations took off technologically and there was an uneasy peace until after WWI. The Crusades were a small interlude in this and exploited the breakup of the Islamic empire into many warring factions. Basically and ill-conceived and failed attempt to return the Middle East to its Christian roots (which were long gone).

I don't think that it's confined to Islam.
Can you say "Crusades?"
"Christians" fought the Crusades against Muslims.
Oh, and nobody would expect the Spanish Inquisition, now would they?
And what about the Jews who were enslaved by the Egyptians?
I think that different extremists of different religions promote violence from within their respective religions.
There has just been more publicity given to Muslim violence these days than any other religious fighting.

Well,it depends how far back you want to go.Over 5 million people were butchered & burned during the Spanish Inquisition. Also, many Catholic clergy collaborrated with the Nazis.Finger-pointing doesn't really work, because all the major religions have spilt rivers of blood over the centuries.

You will not like this answer. But the Islamic intolerance pales compared with the constant murder and destruction laid out by Christians on Islamics. Its hardly a fair fight.
In the long list of Islamic outrages there have been very few. The sacking of Constantinople remains the pinnacle of barbarity. I find that living with Christians or Islamics in ordinary life, the latter are far more intolerant of violent behavior in social activity.
The list of Catholic and Christian outrages pile upon the other including a remarkable blind eye given by the Italian based Vatican city (Italy was an Axis member in WII) regarding the Holocaust. In the break up of Yugoslavia and the troubles in Northern Ireland clearly revolved around religious intolerance.
Going back into antiquity, the Cathars were literally exterminated in southern France. The Spanish Inquisition alone accounted for 5 million lives, and that was only a single liturgical court of the entire Christian empire.
An angry Christian world launched at least five Crusades against the Islamic world in the Middle East. The last being the declared Crusade in Iraq by the US. Those were George W. Bush's own words.
The universal burning of witches was a habit of both Protestant and Catholic churches. One could be hung and many were hung in merrye olde England for blashphemy. Indeed its only major civil Wars were over religion. And that religion(s) were Christian.
Let us not forget the absolute carnage that the Jesuits and other good missionaries visited upon the First Nations of North America. Cortez brought Christianity to Mexico and central America putting to death and causing the death of hundreds of thousands of Mexican civilians.
Pizarro brought Christianity to South America in much the same way. The Spanish gave religion to their subjects and appropriated all the lands, resources, and gold of those they conquered in God's sacred name.
The Ponce De Leon march of Christianity alone accounted for the deaths of millions in what is now the American southern states. Before the march of this good Christian, there were millions of people in the US southern States. A century later when more Europeans finally came to colonize that land it was largely vacant and inhabited.
Further North more Europeans finally brought a more permanent subjegation of that land and it was vacant. Along the Canadian, and Northern United States lands thoughtful Christians monks donated smallpox laden blankets to welcoming First Nations. One may kill by other methods than just a sword or bullet.
In India during periods of starvation good Christian missionaries only donated to those starving who declared their conversion to Christianity. The countless number who refused died.
Back to Iraq. You will note that only the Christian soldiers are counted accurately as casualties in George Bush's 5th Crusade. And for the first Gulf War the hundred thousand of vulnerable "retreating" Iraqis were summarily killed without mercy as Schwarzkopf said to crush the enemy. The question should have been asked if that if this was a Christian army in retreat wouldn't quarter have been given.
And Christians are not equal opportunity killers. At the conclusion of World War II the bomb could have been dropped on Germany to finish them off. Bombs of anthrax were considered an option. Neither event occurred because that would have been considered inhumane. And after all Germany was a Christian land.
Japan on the other hand was a nonChristian land. Kaboom.
Christian nations set up Israel on the property belonging to Islamic Palestinians. Primarily this was done at the conclusion of World War II. This Israel was created to sooth the justified anger of the Jewish peoples who had survived the Holocaust. What is not said is that the Holocaust was at the hands of Christian nations. Simply because a Nazi declared allegiance to Herr Hitler they also prayed to the Christian God.
Any harsh critic could continue with this list. This was just a sketch of human history and its Christian murderous influence. Any statistics relating to the rather bloody history of Christianity pales. These numbers are from Christian based sources.
One thing is for sure. Beyond any shadow, beyond the cast of any blackness, of the three book religions of Jewish, Islam and Christianity: the last is far more ruthless, bloody and cruel than all combined by tenfold.
This was only a sketch. Not a full description. You put the wrong religion at door number one.

believe me, the conservatives are coming to skill quickly, they gained't enable this proceed, people have uproared approximately this, it won't take place back after the subsequent typical election, the BNP gets a hell of so plenty greater votes, and then, whn mosques are burned down, and muslims battered on the streets, they are going to be apologetic approximately what they did, I have not have been given any problem with non violent muslims, yet whilst a muslim buddy of mine ever did that, i might a million/2 kill them, because of the fact that a great form of people experience a similar way, the conservatives will come into skill, and it will supply up.

If you're saying the only reason I wont convert to a different religion is because Islamic extremists will hunt me down and kill me, thus I am put into this religion due to fear, then you my friend need to think more
This isn't the middle ages, religions aren't being spreaded by force, yes many religions were spread by force so don't go bashing just one of them.
Nowadays you don't see them forcing people to convert, in fact its unislamic to do that, as the person must pay the tax if they do not wish to convert.

You may be right although Catholicism can't be far behind. Since there is no such thing as 'god' all those deaths have been in vain. If religion is the worship of a (non-existent) deity, then why oh why can't people let others make their own choice. Personally I don't care who worships what as long as they don't affect me and i certainly don't want to kill people for bowing down to these graven images. It;'s up to them. Live and let live IO say and, to all proponents of any religion in the world, for goodness sake, don't try to force your beliefs on me.
