how do i re install sound on my notebook computer?

how do i re install sound on my notebook computer , i dont know what happen to the volume last week my computer was running real slow and my brother in law cleaned out my computer but after he got done cleaning the computer the sound and volume were not on the bottom no more by the time. how do i get my sound and volume back , thanks

Reinstall the soundcard card driver and you should be in business in no time at all. The driver could be in a CD that came with your PC or the soundcard. If you can longer find it, download a copy from the manufacturer's website and install it.

I am going to assume that you are using the audio codecs that are on board via the motherboard. If it is a sound card, disregard this. For the motherboard sound, find the manufacturer and go to their website and download the latest drivers for the audio codecs. If it is an independent sound card, then do the same and make sure that your in law didn't accidently delete files or change connections/settings. But most likely it is just a simple driver issue and they need to be redownloaded from the mother board manufacturers site.

right click on my computer and go to properties, click teh hardware tab, then go to device management. Here if you are missing your sound card driver it will have a exclamation point next to it. You simply need to uninstall the driver (or just try to even if there isnt one) and re-install it. Drivers are available online if you find out the hardware manufacturer and don't have the disc. to install right click on the device and click install, point to your disc or your download. the end ;)
