I just wanna know who the characters in the band are based on. And who is eddie murphy's character (jimmy "thunder" early) based on?

I believe they are loosely based on Diana Ross and the Supremes, the all girl singing group in the 60s. Eddie Murphy's character is a loose interpretation of famed soul singers such as James Brown, Little Richard, Marvin Gaye, and Jackie Wilson.

I think that they are based on the Supremes. Diana was not the best singer in the group but thought to have the look and later on went to have a solo career which sorda reminds me of another group ( Destiny's Child)?
