Depo causes many horrible things to happen to a majority of women's bodies, so I would NOT be surprised if depo was the cause.

If they can't find out what caused your thyroid problem, I would truly believe that it is the depo causing it.

Making dietary changes is your first line of defense in treating hypothyroidism. Learn here https://tr.im/O2nY2

Many people with hypothyroidism experience crippling fatigue and brain fog, which prompts reaching for non-nutritional forms of energy like sugar and caffeine. I’ve dubbed these rascals the terrible twosome, as they can burn out your thyroid (and destabilize blood sugar).

1. Just say no to the dietary bungee cord. Greatly reduce or eliminate caffeine and sugar, including refined carbohydrates like flour, which the body treats like sugar. Make grain-based carbohydrates lesser of a focus, eating non-starchy vegetables to your heart’s content.

2. Up the protein. Protein transports thyroid hormone to all your tissues and enjoying it at each meal can help normalize thyroid function. Proteins include nuts and nut butters; quinoa; hormone- and antibiotic-free animal products (organic, grass-fed meats, eggs, and sustainably-farmed fish); and legumes.

My mother had her thyroid removed a few months ago. She wasn't on any medications and it came about quickly. There is no family history of any thyroid problems. I have been on depo for years and haven't had any problems despite my mothers problems. I wouldn't be so quick to blame it on your birth control.

Yes it can trigger or cause it....both me and mum are prone to it and once off the depo and staying off for a while thyroid levels went back to normal

What is the most important information I should know about Provera (medroxyprogesterone)?

You should not use this medicine if you are pregnant, or if you have liver disease, a hormone-related cancer such as breast or uterine cancer, a history of stroke or blood clot, or abnormal vaginal bleeding that has not been checked by a doctor.
Medroxyprogesterone should not be used to prevent heart disease, stroke, or dementia. This medicine may actually increase your risk of developing these conditions. Long-term use of medroxyprogesterone may increase your risk of breast cancer, heart attack, stroke, or blood clot. Talk with your doctor about your individual risk.
