A gift card is always a practical gift but not very personal. I've found that the best housewarming gift is a nice decorative mirror. Think about it, people like to look at themselves, a mirror makes a room look bigger, and you never see "tasteful" mirrors thrown out or at garage sales. Get them a nice one and they will think of you each time they check their hair.

Moving into a new house is scary. For one, do they have trash service? Will they need an outdoor trash can? How about yard stuff? Rake? Shovel? Are they into plants or gardening? Just some ideas to toss around. I like the idea of the dinner certificates for new homeowners until they can get settled in.

My favorite gift was a laundry basket with all sorts of cleaning materials and kitchen essentials. My friend had filled it with everything I could possibly need; I still use some of the items today.

The neatest thing was that she went to the trouble of wrapping it all in colored cellophane, much like an Easter basket, with a huge bow. She even included 'thank you' cards in the essentials!

A vase is always nice, candle holders maybe, someone got me a banana holder once (in college - it's cheap) and I still use it to this day- 10 years later. Maybe a wine rack or just a nice bottle of wine would do fine.

Get them a restaurant gift card. It takes a couple days to get the kitchen in order, and having a place to get good food served to you (resting from all that box lifting) is just the ticket!
