I Ask about buying a trailer and was informed on the spot they are not called trailors but mobile homes, and that he did not appreciate me saying that. I then I explained my thoughts on the matter, which then he walked/stomped away. WOW! --In the first place i consider anything that has wheels, moves down the road and has and a tongue with 2 rails that has a load on top and that is attached behind a vehicle to be a trailor- and to add to that it would be a house not a home, until it is occupied by people.Which i said to him it should be called a trailor house( which helped him stomp a little faster) And once it has been set up and moved into, I would say you could call it a mobile home, Which to me means it can be moved if need be without tearing it down. Could anybody get me the correct word or answer for this?

Ha ha ha. That's great. I'll bet if you said trailer trash, that would have finished him off. I know that trailers or mobile homes have come quite a way and that trailer may have a bad connotation to some folks but I think he overreacted. It sounds like you found a weak spot but a trailer is still a trailer no matter how fancy you want to be. I lived in one for a while years ago and loved it until it burned. Wow, they really go up fast. Stupid trailer!

The mobile home/manufactured home/ trailer industry has worked very very hard for the last 20 years to get rid of the trailer name.
They really hate their product being called a trailer. The public associates the word trailer with old 1960s and 1970s trailers in dumpy parks with low class people.
The proper term is manufactured home.
If it makes you feel any better a few years ago my wife did some bookkeeping for a manufactured home company. When she asked the boss man a question and used the word trailer he about tore her a new one. Yes this guy was trailer trash.

I call 'em a trailer - occupied or not. However, I think that technically they are a trailer until you take the wheels off and once they are placed and skirted, then it's a mobile home. So, I guess it depends on whether you are living in it with the wheels on it or not. LOL!
And, yes, you are correct in the difference between a house and a home. Good on-the-spot answer. :)

Yes it's a trailer. They can be found in clusters at a trailer park. Although your stomping friend would probably call it a mobile home community. Some feel insulted when you call their mobile home a trailer. I guess they feel using softer language to describe it will make it less of a dump.

Apparently you've already heard the preferred word is mobile home. A trailer can be something you hitch to your car and throw a tent in, or garbage, or haul something with.
Some folks are just a tad persnickety...go figure!

There's a reason they call them trailer parks not mobile home parks... I'd pass on ever dealing with the clown again.
