We seem to have "patriotic" Americans shouting we bailed your asses out in world war2 etc

But America fought and helped Britain out in World War 2 (on the ground) for two years?

Britain helped America out in this one for four (or five)..years.

- we also helped in the struggle against communism for forty five years..

You didn't forgive us the debt (lend lease agreement). We paid it off in full last year.

(repaid in full with interest).

Casualty figures don't come into it, we didn't know how many casualties there would be (and neither did you in Iraq).

We would have paid any "blood price" in Iraq..
(bearing in mind modern armour and medicine make casualty figures a hell of a lot lower in modern warfare as opposed to world war2 etc).

So morally.. Republicans - bearing all this in mind..Are there some that still feel Britain owes you anything, or that British people should feel endebted to americans.
Do you now think Britain and America are basically quits

As much as you don't want to admit it there are Americans (a awful lot) who believe that britain owes america big. It is those who I am addressing with tis question. I know how rediculous it is, but that doesn't change the point.

"Britain helped America out in this one for "

No such thing. Britain helped the US NOT America. They are not the same thing. The US is to America what Britain is to Europe NOT the same thing.

What a disturbing and unsettling statement 'Britain should be obligated to fight for the US' and 'British people should feel endebted to Americans'.

With friends like you (US) we don't exactly need enemies do we!

In my opinion the UK has no obligation whatsoever to the US. The Iraq war was contrived from day 1. I reiterate a statement I made previously that the US had a chance to finish Saddam Hussien off in the early 90's but greed got in their way.

A fine example of US greed is the way in which they carved up the re-construction of Iraq to just US contractors.

How GWB sleeps at night I do not know. This man of religious values. Nothing but a criminal!

Comparing Iraq to WW2...your an idiot.

And no you fool..America held up the British military - as well as the rest of the allies - for the ENTIRE WAR. I'm sorry to inform your ego - but Britain would be under NAZI control to this day if it wasn't for the USA. Never forget that!

Lets be honest mate - it's 50:50

There are many anti Geroge Bush/ OTny Blaire jerks in the UK who seem to forget the help of America in WW2 or the simple fact that Saddam was a madman, butcher to his own people who was threatening the lives of us civalised westerners

In britain we take the line of not really discussing politics or religion - not so the case in america where the whole freedom of speech thing is the norm

generally britain has the intellegence (ie strategies - our SAS is the best in the world) whereas america has more man power

The same people who have problems with america or vice versa are generally uneducated dicks who havent ever been outside there home towns

peace

You appear to be addressing this question to the American people. You are obviously a Brit like me. I don't remember us being asked to vote whether going to Iraq would be a good idea. What makes you think the American people had any more choice than we did?

They are our allies. They are our friends, regardless of 'debts'. And we have a common enemy. Bush and Blair.

Any republicans saying Britain owes us are still living in the 40's. The fact of the matter is, since WWII Britain has been our staunchest ally. We should in fact be thanking them. As for the ingrates across the channel from you, I would say yes they owe us. I don't believe they have paid their debt nor do they show any sort of gratitude for it. The last time they thanked us was with the statue of liberty and I think that was just for defeating Britain.

It's a loyalty thing not an obligation thing. America helped Britain out of kinship and vice versa. The examples you listed are irrelevant. Who cares who helped who first or the most amount of times. Just because you bail your little brother out of trouble more times than he has you, does that mean you stop being his brother?

I've never felt that Britain is "endebted" to the US. It would be in their best interest to be an ally. We certainly didn't FORCE your government to take part in the Iraq war, did we?

WWII was a long time ago, few are alive who fought in it, it's silly to hold a 'debt' over such a long time.

Right now, Brittain and America our allies against a hateful and ruthless enemy. There's no need to count indebtedness on either side - it's foolish to do so.
