Here is the definition of "satisfactory" that the Bush administration used in its report to Congress. Is a satisfactory grade some progress, or is it just double talk?

"As measured from a January 2007 baseline, do we assess that present trend data demonstrates a positive trajectory, which is tracking toward satisfactory accomplishment in the near term? If the answer is yes, we have provided a 'Satisfactory' assessment; if the answer is no, the assessment is 'Unsatisfactory.'

curious, we've heard so much about these benchmarks and how we are or are not meeting them.....

but I have yet to see a list of just WHAT these 18 benchmarks are supposed to be and how its decided what qualifies as progress or not....

what is can say is this....Bush-co will try and spin the progress report in such a way as to make it that we have made progress and that the current strategy is working, however, the progress can't be too tremendous, otherwise no one would believe it. Also, it seems to me that dubbya and crew WANT us in Iraq regardless of what top officials and military analysts say. Does anyone REALLY expect Petraeus to give a bleak assessment in September? and if he does will anyone be the slightest bit surprised when he is replaced with someone else more willing to play puppet to Bush-co?

Wow! What a crock......it's a lot like the garbage the Republicans gave us during Veit Nam, and it's going to end up with the same result if they don't change their plan soon.

Benchmarks are arbitrary nonsense. The Congress is off the reservation on their moaning about benchmarks.

No the Iraqis have proven they could care less about improving their society. Seeing they do not care, we should not care either. The Iraqis are the international equivalent to welfare dependents.
