Ah, both japan and Germany get most of their energy from nuclear power.

They are using alternative energy sources to try and replace what few fossil fuel power plants they have left.

Even with 100% implication, solar power, wind power would be hard pressed to supply 10% of America;s energy needs.

That still leaves 90% to supply, which is almost entirely fossil fuel based today.

We still need to replace the fossil fuel power plants and the only affordable alternative, is nuclear power.

EDIT:

About solar power.

A 2,000 watts home solar system, will provide 2,000 watts of elec power per year.

A 2,000 watts system cost $20,000.

The average home uses between 1500 and 2500 watts of power per month.

So for $20,000 you can reduce your elec bill by $100 a year.

The cost of the war wouldn't have made a dent in US energy consumption, even if it had been all used for solar power.

Some states already support solar power, the big problem is that bigger rebates aren't only expensive because they're bigger, but because more people avail themselves of them. Installing current solar technology on every house in america would be impossible for instance - not just impossibly expensive, but litterally impossible, the production capacity simply doesn't exist.

Solar power will become pratical when it's cost become competative with other forms of power generation. If we remain dependent on fossil fuels, that'll happen sooner. Ironically, you should be hoping for further turmoil in the middle east, as nothing drive alternative energy, like high-priced conventional energy.

I just want to point out that for the cost of the Iraq war alone would have put solar on about 3 Fourths of every home in the USA. Our spending on other countries Or should I say if we would use the money we are giving away to other countries for one year we could put solar on every home in the USA.

But then again that would take the money out of the pockets of our elected groups and their supporters.

So till there are some major changes in our government it will never happen.

Check out the latest in solar power - soon to be CHEAPER THAN OIL - "nanocrystals"

OFF THE FRICKEN GRID!!!

consider, The same area of land in U.S. deserts could yield more energy from solar power than Alaska can produce from oil. - and it would NEVER RUN OUT
