I'm sorry; I want to help you, but I don't have enough information to answer this question. You might want to re-post this, with some more information, such as:
* What, exactly, is your computer doing/not doing?
* When does it happen?
* How long has this been happening?
* Did you change something or install something right before it happened the first time?
* When your computer has a problem, will it do anything at all? If so, what?
Edit: Why am I getting thumbs-down just for requesting more information? "Whipeing out a computer" doesn't have much meaning, correct? It could be the OS, a virus, hard drive failure, power supply problems, spyware... More info is needed to get any kind of reasonable diagnosis, people! :o)

If you mean that you are having trouble with your computer you need to be a LOT more specific in the description of the problems you are experiencing.
*** "Wiping a Drive" means that a program is used from DOS to overwrite all data on the a hard drive with a certain number of 'passes' of zeros and ones. If done correctly, it renders the data on that drive un-recoverable (in MOST cases). This makes the drive able to be RE-FORMATTED again by installing an Operating System such as Windows, Mac, or Linux on it.
BTW: partitions are part of 'data' on a hard drive. When 'wiping a drive' as described above, ALL data is 'erased' from (more ACCURATELY, __covered up__ on) that hard drive.

Formatting removes the file structure but does not immediately affect your data. By removing the file structure windows does not see the data and overwrites it as it needs space for new data.
"Wiping" a drive or file over writes data to the drive, rendering the data useless and unrecoverable.
This can be done to an entire drive with programs like Digital Dolly, (With uses Derek's Boot and Nuke) or KillDisk, which are both freeware utilities.
"Quick Wipe" overwrites one time.
"DoD Wipe" (Department of Defense) over writes information 7 times.
"Gutman Wipe" over writes 38 times. This is for the "Black Helicopter Paranoid" crowd.

It's completely erasing everything on your computer. Windows, programs, files, everything. And if you dont even know what it means you probably shouldn't be doing it.

You are probably talking about formatting your hard drive. That will completely erase all data on it (documents, pictures, Windows, etc.).
