same thing as when people say "I'm not sexist, but..." same song, different tune. When you hear this, be prepared for Archie Bunker, but more subtle.

I don't get suspicious because I know if someone says that then I know that they are possibly that way!

It's usually followed by some asinine comment that they've heard on the news or something.

I do. I also lose all interest in listening to what else is said after the word "but".
I found idahomike's answer extremely honest.
It is undeniable that all of us may have some degree of racial or gender prejudice.
However what matters, is being conscious that any kind of prejudice hurts our spiritual being. Once we know this we can work towards the refinement of our character.

Yes because most of them are racist. Its like being labled a racist is SOOOO bad that they are in denial. I say hey, be proud.

No...not really if you are having a conversation and then someone says that out of the blue I assume that they are and they don't want to offend you face to face because they don't know what or how you will react.

I have never... literally... met anyone who was not a racist... to some degree or another... I just take it as a figure of speech
