kind of: The first week and a half is the toughest, after that, just tell yourself that you don't smoke anymore when you think about smooking, simple as that. I quit cold turkey 4 weeks ago and have been doing great! Now, the trick for me is I don't have most of my "triggers" around, like alcohol or driving or sitting around watching TV because I am deployed in Afghanistan right now. Try finding other things to occupy your hands and your mind while you are amongst your "triggers". Good luck! I know you can do this!!!

Good luck!
I've gone through Dr. Pepper withdrawals, I know how STUPID that sounds, but I'm absolutely addicted to caffeine, and Dr. Pepper is my drug of choice. It's so hard!
You should be proud of yourself for taking that step....16 years is a longass time, and I hope you can make it!

I don't have any advice, sorry. The way I got over Dr. Pepper withdrawals was cutting them back from 5 a day to 1 a day.

So I guess I didn't really do too well.

Yep, good luck. I used the patch to quit also. No withdrawals for the 3 months on the patch.

I've used the patch before. They don't really cut back on cravings but once you finish the whole step down program, cigarettes will have the nastiest taste. I didn't smoke for 6 months after using Nicoderm CQ but started again after something traumatic happened. Good luck! The longer you've smoked the harder it is to give up but you can do!

Well I guess I will come visit you in prison when you reach for a machete and give them that Nichole Simpson/ Ron Goldman look instead of reaching for a cigarette.
Or you try to speed that idiot doing 35 in the fast line up with a little aggressive bump drafting instead of reaching for a cigarette.
Or you decide your husband would be a lot tastier than a rank of lamb when he comes in griping instead of reaching for a cigarette.

Just kidding good luck. You can tell it is raining where I am at.

Withdrawal is another word for detoxifying. It is a good thing. It maybe painful - so take some pain medication. Do what ever you need to do to get through the detox stage - it doesn't last forever and when it's over you will be amazed at how good you feel. good luck!

good luck...I didn't smoke as long as you did..only for 2 years but when I decided to quit it was hell. Was a little moody towards everyone and felt sick for a little while but it passed. Been a year since I've had a smoke.

Good luck! You can do it! :)

My hubby used Wellbutrin to quit after 30 YEARS!!! :) He is still smoke free 6 years later and he said he never realized how BAD he smelled when smoking. The smell of cigarettes now makes him sick! :)

I know you can do this! Be strong and take it one day at a time! :)

Good luck! I had a Hell of time quiting. I was hooked on Booze for about 17 years starting about 12 years old.

It is difficult and you got to have drive and desire and force yourself to forge forward everyday but if you know you got to do it, then you will.
