You're really not helping your cause by giving incorrect information. The article was about how certain investment fund managers pay is taxed at the 15% capital gains rate vs. the 35% income rate for amounts in that range.
While this is a completely BS loophole, it's far from your blanket statement of "The rich pay no taxes". It's still a fact that those in the top 1% income level pay in the neighborhood of 33 - 36% of income taxes.
Yes - there are people in that range that have good accountants and lawyers that know how to play the system. There are also some who flat out cheat on their taxes.
Yes - there needs to be a massive rework in the tax system.
The problem is that when people like you come in with these fabricated, inflammitory statements that are intended to work people up, you end up defeating your own purpose.

Well there may be some rich not paying taxes, but it would probably be because they stopped working and therefore technically don't have income. Can't pay income taxes on no income.
The fact is that the top 1% of the country (that's top income) pay over ONE-THIRD of the income taxes.
The top 10% pay almost HALF the income taxes.
The top HALF pay 97% of the income taxes.
So how much are the poor paying again?
2008 won't change anythign because the only thing the bottom 1/2 pay is payroll "contributions" (FICA-Social Security and Medicaid; and Medicare). These contributions are never up for discussion and remain constant. Income taxes are what we are talking about and the rich are paying a record high percentage of income taxes. Look it up.

No corporations pay taxes. They are a line on the balance sheet which is built into the cost of doing business. Most 1st year college students know that. By the way, the top 20% of income earners in the US pay 79% of all taxes collected, so take that ridiculous arguement somewhere else. See link

Are you KIDDING me? You actually believe that? Did you even read the article or did you just read the headline, which was titled the way it was to get people's attention? The top 2% of the wealthiest people in the USA pay more the 75% of all taxes in the USA. The rich do indeed pay taxes, you jacka$$.
The NY Times is a liberal newspaper. You can't believe much of what they say.

Not truth!!!
I know in fact. That the more they do the more they pay...
Sometimes if they donate is a very little break.
But they do more, the more taxes they have to pay.
It happen to me so, the more I earn the more taxes I pay so.
And still can travel and save etc.
That is the price I am paying to earn more.
By the way I pay Medicaid and social security...
Do I am geting medicaid fro my kids? NEVER.
And still I pay more taxes each year.
Who benefits from the taxes I pay?
So keep it real....

I wish I had a dollar for every time I have heard how the rich dont pay taxes and that the democrats are going to fix that when they get in office. I would be a rich man. Think for a minute. Elected officials are placed in office by persons with money. They have to spend millions to get elected to a job that pays thousands. Add to that all of the money they will get for the favors they did in office after they retire and now they are wealthy too. Clinton never had a job that paid much until he became president yet now he has millions in assets. Figure it out guys, If you owe your soul to big money, you arent going to pass laws they dont want. If you plan on having lots of money, you arent going to pass laws that would cause you to have to give it up. There are a lot of weathy people in washington and they arent going to pass laws that hurt them regardless of how much lip service they give SHEEPLE like you saying otherwise. Get a clue!

Tax avoidance and tax evasion are very real problems - and will continue to be so as long as the tax laws are overly complex, and, ironically, as long as tax rates are too high...
It's the basis of the argument for a 'flat tax.' If you have a simpler tax with no loopholes, you can collect the same amount of revenue with a much lower tax rate, and, with a lower tax rate, there's less incentive to evade paying...
A little simplistic, but not without merit.
