Well according to the website below;

"The northwest peninsula of Trinidad was once connected to the South American mainland. As a result, it is the only island of the Lesser Antilles that has indigenous South American animals living on it. These include jaguars, boa constrictors, bushmasters, and fer-de-lances."

Geologically, the remainder of the island is a result of uplifting from the crashing together of two tectonic plates.

actually all continents at one point in time were all adjoined to each other and it was known as gondwana.

so it is possible that trinidad was adjoined to south america.
